Let me think this through.
First, there are at least four copies of laptop data:
The CCP has one set, they were the original harvesters.
The anti-CCP Federation has a copy.
The computer shop guy had one laptop, which he gave to the FBI. This was probably just part of what the CCP harvested, as Hunter would have got another laptop after he dropped the malfunctioning one off at the shop.
Perhaps he kept a mirror copy as insurance, and gave that to Rudy.
The Dems would have known about at least two of those: the CCP copy, and the FBI copy.
They could control the FBI copy, but not the CCP copy.
What would it gain the CCP to release the files, if doing so would help ensure the reelection of their nemesis, Trump? None that I can see.
Same with the FBI releasing it.
Ergo, the Dems didn't know that Rudy and the Chinese Federation had copies, else they would have done something to prevent the release; unless, as the anon on halfchan is right, that they saw they had no chance of stealing the election, so would be willing to sacrifice Joe and Hunter, maybe Nancy too, so as to poison the atmosphere post Trump victory with endless charges of him tampering with the election and blaming him for Joe's loss.
