Supporters Ask Judge for Adjournment of Raniere’s Sentencing; Claim FBI Tampered With Child Porn Evidence

On Friday, seven supporters of Keith Alan Raniere, who call themselves Make Justice Blind, emailed Judge Nicholas G. Garaufis to request that Raniere’s Tuesday sentencing hearing be adjourned.

Their argument: The nude photos of 15-year-old Camila that were admitted into evidence at Raniere’s trial were taken from a hard drive and media card that were tampered with by the FBI — after they seized the devices from Raniere’s library in March 2018.

Raniere was convicted in June 2019.

His supporters claim and produce reports by forensic experts that the FBI tampered with files in devices where Camila’s photos were transferred and stored, even photoshopping one image and changing dates of dozen of others, months after the FBI seized the devices and had sole custody of them.

It is not seen as likely that the judge will adjourn sentencing.

In our next post we will delve into how Camila’s decision to make a victim statement at sentencing may complicate matters. Camila did not testify at trial.

The Make Justice Blind group is focused on presenting the judge with evidence of tampering they claim occurred at Raniere’s trial in the hope that it will be persuasive in securing a new trial for Raniere.

Their email to the judge, followed by the reports of forensic experts, are presented exactly as they were presented to the judge on Friday

Russian Bankers Seek Deposition Of Steele Dossier Source Igor Danchenko

Lawyers for the owners of Alfa Bank have asked a federal judge to force Steele dossier source Igor Danchenko to appear for a deposition.

The bankers subpoenaed Danchenko in August, but he has refused to voluntarily appears for a deposition, according to the lawyers.

Danchenko has recently come out of hiding through several interviews about his work for Christopher Steele.

Lawyers for a trio of Russian bankers asked a federal judge on Friday to order Igor Danchenko, the primary source for the Steele dossier, to appear for a deposition regarding his work on the salacious document.

The lawyers, who represent Alfa Bank, said in a court filing on Friday that Danchenko had rejected a subpoena to appear voluntarily for a deposition in a lawsuit against Fusion GPS, which commissioned the infamous dossier on behalf of the Clinton campaign and DNC.

The Alfa Bank owners, German Khan, Peter Aven and Mikhail Fridman, are suing Fusion GPS for defamation over one of the memos from Christopher Steele’s 35-page dossier. Fusion GPS hired Steele in June 2016 to investigate Donald Trump’s possible ties to Russia.

In a memo dated Sept. 14, 2016, Steele alleged that the owners of the bank had bribed Russian president Vladimir Putin.

Steele has said that he relied on only one source — identified in July as Danchenko — to collect information on Trump, members of the Trump campaign, and Russian government officials’ election meddling efforts.

The owners of Alfa Bank have vehemently denied the allegation that they have bribed Putin. In addition to their lawsuit against Fusion GPS, they have sued Steele in London, where he is based.

In the dossier, Steele alleged that the Trump campaign and the Kremlin were part of a “well-developed conspiracy of cooperation” to influence the 2016 election.

That allegation was largely debunked by the special counsel’s report, which said that prosecutors found no evidence that Trump associates conspired with Russians.

The special counsel’s office also debunked Danchenko’s allegation that former Trump lawyer Michael Cohen met secretly with Kremlin insiders in August 2016 in Prague.

Birth rates will drop, people will stay single for longer and women will sexualise themselves more: Scientists predict how society will change in a post-COVID world

A multidisciplinary team of experts reviewed 90 studies to make their forecasts

The team predict various social impacts — even among those not infected

Gender inequality could rise due to lockdown, as could social conservatism

Psychological fallout from the pandemic will cause birth rates to drop, people to stay single for longer and women to sexualise themselves more, experts have predicted.

Experts from the US reviewed 90 studies to help them predict how COVID-19 could shift social behaviours and gender norms — even among those not infected.

They expect planned pregnancies to decrease in response to the global health crisis as people defer marriage and kids, leading some nations' populations to shrink.

Drops in birth-rates will have cascading impacts on society and economics, affecting such things as job opportunities and support for elderly populations.

Furthermore, the unequal division of the extra household labour brought by lockdown could see gender inequality rise and foster more social conservatism.

In many ways, the researchers noted, 'the pandemic has become a worldwide social experiment' — the results of which have yet to finish playing out. Counterintuitively, however, normal brain development among juvenile animals — including human children — requires exposure to a diverse set of microorganisms.

This allows the young to prepare themselves against the various pathogens that they might later encounter during adulthood.

Stay-at-home and quarantine measures, however, have halted the social interactions which would otherwise expose millions of adolescents to new microbes.

It remains to be seen what impact on young people's developing immune systems and brains this shift will have, the researchers said.

Better understanding the behavioural, developmental and psychological impacts of SARS-CoV-2 will enable us to better combat the pandemic, the team concluded.

The full findings of the study were published in the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences.
