I doubt that is the case. Kazakhstan produces almost half the world's Uranium and is right next door to Ukraine (where U1 Uranium went).
Antarctica is not going to be an easy place to mine or set up operations of any kind. There was likely another reason for the visit. Though there is something spoopy going on in antarctica.
