SENECA FALLS — The last time Democratic Congresswoman Nancy Pelosi was in the Finger Lakes she was being inducted into the National Women’s Hall of Fame.

When she returned to Seneca Falls Sunday, it was to kick off a national tour called “When Women Succeed, America Succeeds, an Economic Agenda for Women and Families.”

Pelosi — the first woman to serve as Speaker of the U.S. House of Representatives and current House Minority Leader — spoke at the former Seneca Knitting Mill, future home of the Hall of Fame.

The tour by Pelosi and other Democratic members of Congress is intended to draw attention to the economic challenges facing women and families today.

Its goals include paycheck fairness, increasing the minimum wage, investment in job training and education opportunities, protecting and restoring employment rights, supporting women entrepreneurs and small businesses, pregnant worker fairness and adequate tools to investigate wage discrimination.

Other parts of the agenda include paid sick leave, paid family and medical leave, expanded family and medical leave and improvements in child care programs.

A crowd of about 200 was on hand for Sunday’s event.
