Business that Joe Biden’s son Hunter “had or might have” in Ukraine has nothing to do with Moscow, President Vladimir Putin said, adding that although Hunter made “good money” there, Russia sees “nothing criminal” in it.
“It doesn't concern us. It concerns the Americans and the Ukrainians,” Putin said when asked about Hunter’s business dealings in Ukraine during an interview with Rossiya-1 that was aired late on Sunday.
The Russian president said he is aware of “at least one company” Joe Biden’s son “de-facto headed,” adding that Hunter “apparently made very good money” from this endeavor. Still, Putin said he does not “see anything criminal about it.”

No peace again: Nagorno-Karabakh warring parties trade

Armenia and Azerbaijan have accused each other of violating the truce in Nagorno-Karabakh with heavy artillery fire. The reports of renewed hostilities came after a new attempt to reach a ceasefire was announced in Washington.
The Azerbaijani Defense Ministry said that Armenian forces had “violated the new humanitarian ceasefire” on Monday by shelling its positions in several locations.
The statement came just minutes after a new ceasefire – a third one agreed for now – was supposed to take effect at 8am local time. It was announced in Washington after Armenian Foreign Minister Zohrab Mnatsakanyan, and his Azerbaijani counterpart, Jeyhun Bayramov, met the US Deputy Secretary of State Stephen Biegun.
Meanwhile, the army of the self-proclaimed Nagorno-Karabakh Republic denied the accusations by the Azerbaijani side. Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan wrote on social media that his country is observing the ceasefire.
At the same time, the spokesperson for the Armenian Defense Ministry, Shushan Stepanyan, said that Azerbaijani artillery began firing at the positions of the Yerevan-backed Nagorno-Karabakh forces “grossly violating the ceasefire agreement.” Azerbaijan, in turn, insisted it is following the truce.

How QAnon Went From A Fringe Conspiracy Theory To A
Political Movement

Three years ago, a new conspiracy theory emerged within the internet’s darkest recesses. Known as QAnon, this outlandish perspective of the world — which includes the claim that countless politicians and celebrities are working in secret with world governments to conceal a rampant international child sex abuse network — has morphed into a movement, making its way into mainstream discourse through targeted messaging to disenfranchised demographics, aligning itself with centuries-old ideological archetypes, engaging in good old fashioned fear-mongering — and systematically targeting Democratic leaders.
While this might seem like a bad electoral strategy to many of us, there are actually over 40 candidates currently running for political office on major party tickets who support QAnon. And, these candidates have experienced landslide voter turnout not in spite of their public support of QAnon, but because of it — making QAnon a serious force in the 2020 US election.
Seeing this unfold has baffled and alarmed experts and observers alike who wonder how a conspiracy theory could become a reputable running platform. But when you take a step back to look at how QAnon emerged, how it captured mass attention, and how it has made its way into the political world, an even darker and more desperate picture of our political landscape emerges.
QAnon’s theories go beyond accusing famous people of paedophilia; the belief is that, even if these household-names are not offenders themselves, they are part of the cabal that's covering it up. But, if this cabal is so clandestine how are its secrets all over the internet? That would be thanks to "Q," the source behind QAnon, who claims to be someone with top security clearance within the US government. And while you might think that someone with the alleged access of "Q" would be a reliable source, QAnon's prognostications have been repeatedly debunked; though, even that hasn’t slowed the spread of the theories.
There's a reason for that, though. Even if nobody knows who the ultra-private "Q" is, the cult of QAnon still has a very public hero: President Donald Trump, who QAnon followers are convinced will arrest all of the alleged wrongdoers and send them to Guantanamo Bay.
If all this sounds like a joke to you, that might be because QAnon was originally never meant to be taken seriously. “QAnon started as a lark on 4Chan where folks were trying to one-up each other pretending to be different public officials, trying to get various conspiracy theories started. To see it actually take hold and become a mass phenomenon was really shocking,” Devin Burghart, President of the Institute for Research and Education on Human Rights, explains.
Burghart and his colleagues have been tracking the rise and spread of conspiracy theories and hate groups for years. Likening the theory’s growth in popularity to a logarithmic scale, he admits that he and fellow researchers didn’t think the incredibly far-fetched QAnon theory would ever gain the traction that it did. “Somehow, out of the depths of the darkest regions of 4Chan comes this political phenomenon that has become something different than it started, but has become really a meme that is driving so much political activity.”
One catalyst that ushered QAnon off 4Chan and onto more mainstream platforms was the surge of pro-Trump nationalism which thrived on the kind of archetypal antisemitic tropes that are QAnon's bread-and-butter. QAnon then used antisemitism as a binding agent to get its other ideas to stick to a wider audience.

False info, conspiracy theories target Florida’s Hispanic voters

Less than two weeks before the US presidential election, conspiracy theories, racist posts and disinformation are targeting Hispanic voters in Florida, a key constituency in the battleground state.
A purported election fraud concocted by Democrats, an alleged plot among Jewish, Black and LGBTQ people to interfere in the election: these are some of the stories that have spread among voters in the United States, and among Florida Latinos in particular.
Take influencer Liliana Rodriguez Morillo, a Donald Trump supporter who is the daughter of singer Jose Luis “El Puma” Rodriguez. The Miami-based Venezuelan shared an image to her 485,000 Instagram followers of fake driver’s licenses confiscated in Chicago.
“All registered to vote Democrat!” she wrote in Spanish. “Will there be fraud November 3? Are we playing dumb? Vote in person!”
There is no evidence that the licenses were linked to the Democratic party or to voter fraud. And US Customs and Border Patrol (CBP) spokesman Steven Bansbach told AFP that CBP could only confirm that 19,888 driver’s licenses — mainly from China and Hong Kong — were confiscated.
Lizette Escobedo, director of civic engagement at the NALEO Educational Fund, a non-profit that promotes political participation of Latinos, said that mistrust in the electoral system is common among Florida Hispanics in both parties.
The problem, she explained, is that “many Latinos don’t actually trust the electoral process. They’re afraid that their votes are not going to count.”
The organization seeks to counter this perception at the national level with voter education campaigns.
“Florida is our largest digital ad buy budget that we have for this election,” Escobedo said.
She said that Latinos are particularly vulnerable to disinformation because they define their positions in the American political system “based on the political systems that they have in their home country.”
Latin America has a long history of authoritarian regimes from both the left and right, often sustained by elections flagged as fraudulent.

Last month, US representatives Debbie Mucarsel-Powell and Joaquin Castro asked the FBI to investigate the spike in disinformation directed at Latinos in South Florida and to “consider efforts of foreign actors to spread disinformation” in this regard.
Many of these conspiracy theories favor Trump, who is head-to-head with Democrat Joe Biden in Florida, a crucial state in the November 3 election.
Hispanics in Florida make up 17 percent of a 14 million voter electorate.
Biden, the Jewish community, and African Americans have been the subject of disinformation.
Venezuelan radio host Carines Moncada of Actualidad Radio, a mainstream Spanish-language outlet in Miami, recently associated the Black Lives Matter (BLM) movement with witchcraft.
According to the public radio WLRN, Moncada told listeners that Black Lives Matter practices “‘lo negro’ — witchcraft and devil worship — and wants to burn down your property and kill police officers.” She then added that a vote for Biden “supports that rape and anarchy.”
On her Facebook, Moncada reposted and translated an article from News Punch, an outlet known for disinformation, which claimed a co-founder of BLM practices witchcraft because activist Patrisse Cullors said in an interview that her movement was “spiritual.”
“These kinds of barbarisms are said constantly,” Roberto R. Tejera, a journalist and host on the same station as Moncada, told the Sun Sentinel. “It’s sort of the daily bread of Spanish radio.”
In another instance in September, local newspaper El Nuevo Herald — the Spanish version of the Miami Herald — had to remove the weekly Libre insert aimed at Cubans in Florida after a reader protested its anti-Semitic and racist content.
A Cuban columnist had written in the insert that the police protests were “racial prostitution” and that Jewish Americans were “cowards” for supporting BLM.
Another columnist, also Cuban, spoke of LGBTQ people in derogatory terms and denounced a supposed “gay lobby” backed by international communism.
Miami’s Radio Caracol 1260 also had to apologize in August after state senator Annette Taddeo called out a paid segment in which the announcer predicted “a dictatorship of Jews and Blacks” if Biden won the presidency.
“This disgusting message, spread by Trump supporters, went out today on Miami @Carasol1260,” Taddeo tweeted.
She added: “Everyone — regardless of party affiliation — is obligated to repudiate and condemn this pro-Nazi and racist discourse.”

Beijing targets US arms producers with sanctions over $1.8bn deal with Taiwan

China says it will impose sanctions on top US weapons manufacturers over a massive sale of their products to Taiwan. The Pentagon approved the deal last week, infuriating Beijing.
The US plans to deliver three weapon systems worth an estimated $1.8 billion to Taiwan. They include truck-based rocket launchers produced by Lockheed Martin, Boeing AGM-84H long-range air-to-ground missiles, and external sensor pods for F-16 jets, which are manufactured by a subsidiary of Raytheon Technologies, according to formal notifications received by the US Congress.
The three US defense giants will be sanctioned by the Chinese government if the deal goes through, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Zhao Lijian said at a news conference on Monday.

MOSCOW — Russian President Vladimir Putin said on Sunday that he saw nothing criminal in Hunter Biden's past business ties with Ukraine or Russia, marking out his disagreement with one of Donald Trump's attack lines in the U.S. presidential election.
Putin was responding to comments made by Trump during televised debates with Democratic challenger Joe Biden ahead of the Nov. 3 election.
Trump, who is trailing in opinion polls, has used the debates to make accusations that Biden and his son Hunter engaged in unethical practices in Ukraine. No evidence has been verified to support the allegations, and Joe Biden has called them false and discredited.

Republican Ohio House Representative Jim Jordan has slammed Joe Biden for his response to son Hunter Biden's laptop scandal. Jordan blasted the Democratic Presidential nominee for failing to speak on whether the emails, pictures, videos obtained via laptop are authentic or not.
On Sunday, October 25, in an interview with Fox News, Jordan claimed that his staff has independently verified the provocative elements found on the laptop, which was recovered from a repair store in Delaware. "These are real as can be. We have the eyewitness, Mr. [Tony] Bobulinski, who said these are authentic, these are real," He told Fox’s Sunday Morning Futures host Maria Bartiromo.
Earlier this month, Hunter's former business partner, Tony Bobulinski, who was marked as the recipient of an email published by the NY Post that appeared to detail a business arrangement involving a Chinese company and the Bidens, said that the email is "genuine" and provided additional information regarding the Bidens' alleged role in the deal.
The email included a note that "Hunter has some office expectations he will elaborate." A proposed equity split then references ‘20’ for ‘H’ and ‘10 held by H for the big guy?’ with no further details.
"These are authentic, these are real, the big guy in one of these emails does, in fact mean, Joe Biden and [Bobulinski] himself had spoken to former Vice President Biden. So this is as real as it gets, and here’s the fundamental question: Why won’t Joe Biden say they are not real, if they are not accurate if these aren’t accurate emails, why won’t the Bidens say so?" Jordan said.
The controversial emails are still under investigation by the Federal Bureau of Investigation but gave not been officially verifies yet. Joe Biden, who has repeatedly denied his involvement, appeared on Pod Save America episode on Saturday, October 24, where he condemned the attacks made against his son by President Donald Trump, calling it "crass" to go after a rival's family.
As soon as Jordan's statements came to light, people started reacting to it, as one Internet user slammed him and wrote, "Things no one has ever accused Jordan of include being clever." Another one slammed him and wrote, "Notice #GymJordan wasn't concerned about how @realDonaldTrump's kids' activities would affect #Trump?! Because, if they'd gotten in trouble like, stealing from children through their charity, questionable associations with foreign actors or Jr ranting on video cranked on cocaine."

World’s Most Powerful Naval Power – The US Navy Adds More Muscle To Its
Arsenal; Goes Hypersonic

In making a significant policy and operational change to its military doctrine, the US Navy has unveiled plans to equip all its destroyers with hypersonic missiles.
Beset with project cost overruns and delays for quite some time, the US navy is currently faced with an increasingly aggressive and assertive Chinese Navy that has forced it to bring about a big deal of functional improvements to maintain its lead over the arch-rival Russia and the emerging one, China.
Currently, the US Navy with 293 ships is the most formidable naval force in the world. Though very recent estimates suggest that the PLA Navy (China) has 350 battle force ships yet in terms of real power, technological strength, naval airpower, nuclear missiles, submarines, destroyers, global outreach and power projection, the US Navy continues to be the most powerful.
A hypersonic missile is one that exceeds Mach-5 (3800mph) and is at least five times faster than the speed of sound. It is believed to be capable of irregular manoeuvres as against the simple parabolic trajectory of a cruise missile.
Broadly categorized as hypersonic glide vehicles, launched by rockets and hypersonic cruise missiles using ramjet engines while maintaining hypersonic velocities, hypersonic weapons are rewriting the concept of modern warfare at sea.
It is believed that currently there is no functional defence system to stop an incoming hypersonic missile. And only four countries US, Russia, China and India have been able to master this complex technology.
Among the four, China was the first one to operationally deploy its hypersonic missiles DF-17 in October, last year while Russia is understood to have Kinzhal and Zircon hypersonic missiles deployed along with Avangard ICBM in December.
Russian president Vladmir Putin has further indicated that Moscow intends to equip its battleships with hypersonic missiles. India too, is working on hypersonic BrahMos II and successfully tested its HTDV with a speed of Mach-6 recently.
Further, North Korea is also expected to be working on hypersonic missiles and all these developments have affected the very basic security apparatus of the region.
So much so that Japan was forced to rework its 2018 strategy to deploy Lockheed Martin’s Aegis Ashore and is planning to have sea-based defensive platforms to manage the purported threats from North Korea and China, the latter was listed as the main security threat by Japan in 2019 for the first time in the light of incessant Chinese aggressive movements in the region.
Recent reports suggesting the successful testing of Avangard ICBM by Russia, PLA Navy becoming the largest naval force, at least in terms of numbers and the deployment of Chinese DF-17, close to the Taiwan Straits, have made the security scenario in the region all the more critical.
The announcement of the US NSA Robert O’Brien regarding equipping all of the 90-plus US Navy destroyers with hypersonic missiles, need to be seen in this context.
Spelling out the ambitious plan, Robert O’Brien talked about “the navy’s conventional prompt strike program to provide hypersonic missile capability to hold targets at risk from longer ranges.”
He suggested the deployment of hypersonic missiles first on Virginia Class submarines, numbering about 22 in the US Navy to be followed by the most advanced, stealthy Zumwalt Class destroyers. In the final phase, such missiles will be deployed on the Arleigh Burke-class destroyers which are about 62 in the US Navy.
While plans were afoot to equip some of the older 90s Arleigh Burke-class destroyers but putting them on all three flights will be extremely expensive and would require massive financial investments and technical changes to accommodate large diameter missiles. It is also likely to tie the naval shipyards for a long time.
An alternative to back-fitting the older Arleigh Burke-class destroyers has been to go out for a smaller version of hypersonic missile that could be an air-breathing one but that again will take quite some time while Russia and China are moving ahead rapidly with their naval versions of hypersonic missiles.
Some defence analysts have also suggested the use of larger Vertical Launching System cells on the next generation surface battleships under construction in the US.
The US Navy meanwhile is working furiously on light and unmanned vessels equipped with AI that will enhance the navy’s striking capability at far-off places with longer reach without or with minimal likely losses to forces.

Amid the increasingly aggressive rivalry between the United States and China, US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo’s planned visit to Jakarta next week may further consolidate efforts to antagonize Beijing and test Indonesia’s free and active foreign policy. Indonesia will be the last country on Pompeo’s overseas itinerary, which starts this weekend in India, before moving to Sri Lanka and the Maldives. The War of the Sons of Light Against the Sons of Darkness
The War of the Sons of Light Against the Sons of Darkness, also known as War Rule, Rule of War and the War Scroll, is a manual for military organization and strategy
that was discovered among the Dead Sea Scrolls.
The manuscript was among the scrolls found in Qumran Cave 1, acquired by the Hebrew University of Jerusalem and first published posthumously by Eleazar Sukenik in 1955.[1]
The document is made up of various scrolls and fragments including 1QM, and 4Q491–497.[1] It is possible that The War of the Messiah is the conclusion to this document.[2]
The 4Q491–497 fragments were published by Maurice Baillet in Discoveries in the Judaean Desert, 7 and comprise a shorter recension of the War Scroll.[1]
Two time periods have been put forward and defended as the most probable time of composition: the Seleucid period and the Roman period.[3]
The Seleucid period proposals include the very beginning of the Maccabean Revolt (165 or 164 BCE), the height of Jonathan's military power (143 BCE),
and the reign of John Hyrcanus (135–104 BCE).[4]
Scholars who believe the scroll was composed during the Roman period propose a date from the middle of the 1st century BCE to the first decade of the 1st century CE.[4]
The War Scroll's description of the weaponry and tactics led Yigael Yadin to assign the composition of the scroll to a date between the capture of Jerusalem by Pompey (65 BCE)
and the death of Herod (4 BCE).[1]
More recently, author Russell Gmirkin in "The War Scroll and Roman Weaponry Reconsidered" disagrees with Yadin's analysis and assigns the weaponry described in the War Scroll
to the 2nd century BCE.[5] Lt. Col. Peter Fromm (US Army Ret.) sides with Gmirkin also assigning the army and weaponry described in the War Scroll to the 2nd century BCE.[6]
Scholars have been unable to determine the exact author of the text. The unity and cohesiveness of the manuscript leads some, such as Jean Carmignac and Yigael Yadin,
to believe that it was written or compiled by a single writer.[1] Most scholars believe, at this point, that it is a composite document, copied from many source documents by one scribe.[7]
In modern times, the genre of 1QM has been described as apocalyptic literature, though some translators and interpreters contend that it is actually a part of sectarian liturgy or tactical treatises.
Jean Duhaime believes that it was probably classified as a part of the serek (rule) texts developed by the Qumranites.[8]

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - The U.S. House of Representatives recently voted to condemn the pro-President Donald Trump online conspiracy theory known as “QAnon.” But multiple QAnon-friendly lawmakers may soon be taking seats in the House chamber.
More than two dozen candidates for Congress in the Nov. 3 elections have endorsed or given credence to QAnon or promoted QAnon content online, the non-profit watchdog group Media Matters says. Two are independents; the rest are Republicans.
At least one of them is expected to be elected to the House of Representatives next week, and a second has a good chance.
The unfounded conspiracy theory, which began in 2017 with anonymous web postings from “Q,” posits that Trump is secretly fighting a global cabal of child-sex predators that includes prominent Democrats, Hollywood elites and “deep state” allies.
Right-wing small business owner Marjorie Taylor Greene, who declared in a 2017 video that “Q is a patriot,” is expected to win a House seat in rural northwest Georgia after her opponent dropped out.
Gun-rights activist Lauren Boebert, who told a conservative podcast last spring that she hopes Q “is real,” has a good chance of winning her Republican-leaning district of western Colorado.
Both women are political neophytes who declare they want to go to Congress to “stop socialism.” After they won Republican primary elections in the summer, both sought to distance themselves from their previous statements about QAnon.
Trump invited both to attend his Republican National Convention speech at the White House in August.
After amplifying conspiracy theorists, social media platforms lately have been trying to crack down on QAnon’s sprawl, and the FBI has listed QAnon as a possible domestic terrorism threat. But a recent poll by Morning Consult said 38% of Republicans believe that at least parts of the QAnon conspiracy are true.
Trump has refused to renounce QAnon and even praised it as patriotic. He has frequently retweeted QAnon-linked content. Some Republicans, however, have publicly denounced the conspiracy theory.
“We simply cannot continue to be a party that accepts conspiracy theories and lives in crazy echo chambers,” said Brendan Buck, who worked for two former House Republican speakers, Paul Ryan and John Boehner.
