FBI put an agent under cover as an AP reporter who created an entirely fake story; AP journalists protested.

FBI created an entire false film crew to follow Bundy family around to harass them AND to get statements recorded that the Bundys would not knowingly give to the FBI to frame them.

As far as journalist "ethics" I worked in social media on one of the 2012 campaigns and know that they create stories out of whole cloth (ie: set up an anonymous blog, have blog published scurrilous statements, then "quote" from the anonymous, unsubstantiated blog as an effort to "make people aware")
