Accompanying him on the trip was Delaware Attorney General Beau Biden, the vice president's son.
While this swing through Cayuga County was kept quiet until the day of the wedding, it wasn't a secret that the Bidens, particularly Beau, are regular visitors to the area.
The Bidens' link to Auburn is well known. Neilia Hunter Biden, Joe Biden's first wife and Beau's mother, was an Auburn native. She was killed in a car crash in 1972. (Beau, who was a young child at the time, survived the wreck.)
Even after Neilia Hunter Biden's death, Joe Biden and his sons made it a priority to return to the area and visit members of the Hunter family and friends.
