According to ABC News, a Justice Department official has revealed that Barr personally briefed Trump about a number of election ballots in Pennsylvania that were found in a dumpster.

Barr and the Justice Department have reportedly launched an investigation into the matter.

A federal investigation into irregularities with mail-in ballots at the Luzerne County Bureau of Elections has turned up nine discarded ballots.

The office later corrected that number to seven ballots cast for Trump and said two others were resealed inside their proper envelope.

Trump was not happy about the situation when asked about it on Sunday during an interview with Fox News.

“They were Trump ballots — eight ballots in an office yesterday in — but in a certain state and they were — they had Trump written on it, and they were thrown in a garbage can. This is what’s going to happen. This is what’s going to happen, and we’re investigating that,” Trump said.

Needless to say, the discovery that Trump ballots were thrown away has caused a huge amount of outrage at the White House.

In fact, White House Press Secretary Kayleigh McEnany responded to the news, saying that more information is expected soon.

“I can confirm for you that Trump ballots, ballots for the president were found in Pennsylvania. I believe you should be getting more information on that shortly. Here in the last 24 hours, they were found cast aside,” McEnany said.

U.S. Attorney David J. Freed said Thursday that FBI agents and Pennsylvania State Police who began investigating “potential issues” with a small number of ballots earlier this week determined a small number of military ballots had been discarded.

A DOJ press release said:

On Monday, September 21, 2020, at the request of Luzerne County District Attorney Stefanie Salavantis, the Office of the United States Attorney along with the Federal Bureau of Investigation, Scranton Resident Office, began an inquiry into reports of potential issues with a small number of mail-in ballots at the Luzerne County Board of Elections.

Since Monday, FBI personnel working together with the Pennsylvania State Police have conducted numerous interviews and recovered and reviewed certain physical evidence.

Election officials in Luzerne County have been cooperative. At this point, we can confirm that a small number of military ballots were discarded.

Investigators have recovered nine ballots at this time. Some of those ballots can be attributed to specific voters and some cannot.

All nine ballots were cast for presidential candidate Donald Trump.
