I use SSKI and borax too. We chatted about borax here one night, a year+ ago. The discussion had a bread named after it, in mockery. kek. "Anons are drinking borax, by the liter" or something along those lines. Good times.

Careful not to get too much. You shouldn't taste it, I don't think. I think 1/4 tsp in 1 liter of water, taken throughout the day is the max. 5 days on 2 days off. I have the info somehere, if you need.

Iodine is a large halide, and is healthy. The smaller halides (Chlorine, Flourine, Bromine) are all toxic, and everywhere. Chlorinated water, brominated bread (it used to be iodated), flouride everywhere too. I think the general premise around taking iodine is to displace the other toxic halides with a healthy halide.
