Zeta hurricane update

UPDATE 11:50 AM, 10/29/2020: The broad circulation center of Tropical Storm Zeta is moving across the Roanoke and New River valleys currently. Barometric pressure at Roanoke plunged from 29.60 to 29.47 between 10 and 11 a.m. The strongest winds have been occurring from western North Carolina into Southside Virginia – gusts above 50 mph at Charlotte and Greensboro,300,000+ without power in North Carolina, and recently 10,000+ in the Danville area. Breezes will pick up as the rain dwindles and Zeta's center pulls away this afternoon, but it appears the immediate Roanoke area will escape this storm with little in the way of damaging winds. A stray 30-40 mph gust is possible this afternoon, but the more consistent 40+ gusts will be to the south and east and on some higher ridgetops. Some sporadic tree damage and power outages are still possible, with more widespread problems affecting Southside localities and later into central Virginia. END UPDATE
