MEET OUR LEADERS…

Operation Grant is a group of military and religious leaders, small business owners, former assistant U.S. Attorneys, a farmer, a politico, and former elected officials, inspired by fellow Ohioan General Ulysses S. Grant in a mission of humility and determination.

OUR LAUNCH

Bill Kristol and John Weaver’s Op-Ed launched Operation Grant, quoting from Gen. Grant’s letter, “We are now in the midst of trying times when every one must be for or against his country, and show his colors too, by his every act.”

Their Op-Ed in the Cleveland Plain Dealer was the official shot across the bow of Trumpism in the Buckeye State. It set in motion a movement for Ohio’s conservatives and Republicans, by bona fide Ohio conservatives and Republicans.

Here we go again

PHILADELPHIA (AP) — Philadelphia could soon join other cities in blocking police from using tear gas, rubber bullets or pepper spray on protesters as the city continues to churn over the fatal police shooting of a Black man days before the heated presidential election.

The sharp political battles being drawn nationwide over the 2020 election could be seen in microcosm Thursday in the nation’s birthplace.

In the morning, the Democrat-controlled City Council voted to rein in the police response to those exercising their First Amendment right to protest. The police commissioner and Mayor Jim Kenney back the intent of the “less-lethal” weapons ban. But the mayor wants to review it before signing off, a spokesman said.

Hours after the vote, U.S. Attorney William McSwain, who was appointed by President Trump, announced charges against a Philadelphia social studies teacher and three others for their alleged roles in the torching of two police cruisers during violent clashes between police and demonstrators who were protesting against racism and police brutality, five months earlier.

Ocasio-Cortez, Omar, Pressley, and Tlaib Lead Call for UN Probe Into Alleged DHS Human Rights Abuses

The four first-term progressive congresswomen collectively called the Squad led a letter Friday calling for independent international investigation of “recent, ongoing, and credible allegations of egregious human rights abuses by the United States Department of Homeland Security (DHS), its components, and its private contractors.”

“This administration has demonstrated time and again its utter disregard for the lives of our immigrant neighbors, while our institutions of government have done little to hold it accountable—that must change. It’s time we had a truly independent, external, and impartial investigation into these alleged human rights abuses by DHS, and I am proud to partner with my sisters in service in leading this call,” she added.

Pressley was joined in demanding a probe of the agency’s actions under the president by fellow Squad members Reps. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-N.Y.), Ilhan Omar (D-Minn.), and Rashida Tlaib (D-Mich.) as well as Reps. Mark Pocan (D-Wis.), Veronica Escobar (D-Texas), Alan Lowenthal (D-Calif.), and Mary Gay Scanlon (D-Pa.).

The lawmakers sent identical, detailed letters (pdf) requesting investigations to United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights Michelle Bachelet, the Organization of American States’ Inter-American Commission on Human Rights, the U.N. Human Rights Council, and 14 independent experts that report to the council.

Do the residents of Baltimore ever look back on the TV series “The Wire”—which aired from 2002 to 2008—with its focus on guns, drugs, and gangland violence as the “good old days,” when violent crime was low and life was good?

Shockingly, they could.

Since Baltimore State's Attorney Marilyn Mosby was first sworn into office in January 2015, homicides, rapes, aggravated assaults, burglaries, and robberies in the gritty city have exploded.

As one FBI chart shows, once Mosby took command, homicides skyrocketed in Maryland, because the vast majority of Maryland killings take place in Baltimore city. (We focus here on the city of Baltimore, as distinct from Baltimore County, which has its own elected state’s attorney.)

But that’s not all. As the chart (Figure 1) from Johns Hopkins University shows, once Mosby took over, all manner of violent crime in Baltimore city shot up, too.

That increase is even more shocking when you consider that violent crime across America—including homicides—has been falling for more than 20 years.

Yet, in cities that have elected rogue prosecutors, such as Baltimore, violent crimes have shot up dramatically.

Left-wing billionaire George Soros realized early on that prosecutors are the gatekeepers to the criminal justice system, and he decided to hand-pick attorneys who would do his bidding by refusing to prosecute entire categories of crimes, fundamentally “reimagining prosecution” and reverse-engineering the criminal justice system into something unrecognizable in the process.

There are four fundamental problems with this rogue prosecutor movement. First, rogue prosecutors usurp the constitutional role of the legislature by refusing to prosecute entire categories of crimes. Second, they abuse the role of the county prosecutor by refusing to faithfully enforce the law. Third, they contribute to increases in violent crime in their cities through their reckless policies. Fourth, they ignore victims, in addition to public safety suffering overall.

But replacing independent, progressive traditional prosecutors with rogue district attorneys became the game plan, and Baltimore became the guinea pig.

So, when Soros decided back in 2014 to spend millions to fund the election efforts of rogue prosecutors, one of the first people he backed was Marilyn Mosby in Baltimore city.
