Maggie Haberman's father-in-law Vartan Gregorian, originally from Iran, was past President of the New york Public Library, President of Brown University, and is currently President of Carnegie Corporation.
In recognition of his accomplishments, President Clinton awarded him the National Humanities Medal in 1998, and President Bush awarded him the Presidential Medal of Freedom, the nation’s highest civil award, in 2004. Most recently, President Obama appointed him to the President’s Commission on White House Fellowships in 2009.
Gregorian is the author of The Road to Home: My Life and Times; Islam: A Mosaic, Not A Monolith; and The Emergence of Modern Afghanistan, 1880-1946. Those blades are supposed to be protected with a safety ring - in the event there is stress and blade breaks off, it would remain contained and not damage the housing. At least, that is as I understand it. Could someone have removed that safety(bracket) ring?
