To make the COVID situation muddier and muddled than it already is, Theresa Tam just updated her mask recommendation… again.
On March 31st, Tam told us that “face masks can cut down on the spread of the coronavirus when worn by someone already infected, it does little for healthy individuals.”
Less than a week later, on April 6, she reversed that.
Masks were suddenly a good idea. And any old mask would do.
And yet, as COVID case counts continue to go up, the answer seems to be… super masks!
We now need a 3-layer mask with some sort of filtering device…
But don’t fear, Rebel News is here, to clear up any confusion and let you know that “Paper towel, dry baby wipes can work as filter in 3-layer masks”:
Dr. Anna Banerji, an infectious disease expert with the University of Toronto, says most two-layer cotton masks can be easily transformed into a three-layer filtered mask by ripping out the seams and adding a filtered material.
“Just open it up and put in some filter paper…”
The other expert, Dr. Jing Wang, a clinical instructor at the University of British Columbia, suggests:
…using a dried out baby wipe – one of the fabrics she tested in her research – because it’s biocompatible, breathable and contains little to no preservatives.
That’s right, to be the most safe, just add any old paper towel or dried up baby wipe to your existing mask.
