Elites rose to power by claiming to be offspring of the planet "gods".
At the time, Earth was undergoing extreme catastrophes, brought about by close encounters with said planet "gods".
So, most people were rather frantic, behaving incredibly irrational due to the paralyzing fear of unfathomable uncertainty.
Probably why they do their damnedest to make sure we live in constant fear and uncertainty.
Otherwise, we start thinking for ourselves and questioning their "authority"
