Well, until the "patriots" came along and insisted that everyone was going to end up downloading kiddie porn by being on the site.
To be fair, the infrastructure at the time was not set up for general purpose browsing or to be much more than a proof of concept. Where I would have included a defacto ramdrive on the ZN local file server to ensure only certain zites were permanently stored - the defacto ZN experience didn't really support this, or many of the features of an imageboard out of the box.
