Safe work load limit 420lbs should have been your clue.

 

You're hanging people who weigh between 150 -250 pounds. When they hit the end of the rope at the distance specified by the Table Of Drops they will impart a force of around 450 pounds to the rope momentarily, assuming the rope stretches by 8%.

 

So 1/2" rope won't be big enough to do the job.
