Major fire at Istanbul hospital sends plume of black smoke into the sky

A fire broke out at the Istanbul University's Medical Facility Hospital on Sunday, triggering a major response from the city's firefighters. Thankfully, the blaze occurred in a building that is not currently in use.

Istanbul residents were disturbed on Sunday by the sight of a big plume of black smoke rising from the Fatih district. It emanated from a huge fire that was engulfing a building under construction, owned by the Medical Faculty Hospital of the Istanbul University.

According to Turkish media, the smoke could be seen as far away as the Zeytinburnu neighborhood – a distance of some five kilometers. There were also reports of small explosions heard at the scene. Multiple fire brigades were dispatched to deal with the blaze.

According to preliminary reports, the heavy smoke was caused by burning insulation material, which caught fire during work carried out on the roof of the seven-story building. Workers were evacuated in time so nobody was hurt in the incident, but concerns remain about the damage that air pollution may have caused in the area.

Anti-Lockdown Protests Erupt Across Spain As State Of Emergency Extended

Social unrest erupted across Spanish cities for the second consecutive night on Saturday after the government's decision to extend a six-month state of emergency in response to the second wave of COVID-19 infections.

Anti-lockdown protesters flooded the streets of Madrid and Barcelona on Saturday night. At least 32 people were arrested and 12 injured when demonstrations turned violent with police in Madrid. Other protests were seen in Malaga, Vitoria, Valencia, Santander, and Burgos, reported RT News.

On Saturday evening, Spain's prime minister, Pedro Sanchez, called for calm as the violent protests intensified. He tweeted:

"Only from responsibility, unity, and sacrifice will we be able to defeat the pandemic that devastates all countries. Violent and irrational behavior by minority groups is intolerable. It is not the way."

Buttigieg on Biden Locking Down the Country: ‘Everything Has to Be on the Table’

Former South Bend, IN Mayor Pete Buttigieg, a surrogate for Democrat Joe Biden’s campaign, said Sunday on CNN’s “State of the Union” that should Biden win, a lockdown to curb the coronavirus pandemic would be “on the table.”

Anchor Jake Tapper asked, “Let’s turn to the pandemic. New coronavirus cases at a record high nationwide, including in your home state of Indiana. Some countries in Europe, such as the U.K. and France and Germany, are actually reinstitution lockdowns. If Joe Biden wins, should another lockdown be on the table?”

Buttigieg said, “Well, hopefully, it doesn’t come to that because we will see swift action coordinating with and supporting public health authorities telling us what we can do without requiring any kind of mandates, but everything has to be on the table in order to keep Americans safe. We should never have got to this point. It should never have been allowed to get this bad. But what we know is even something as simple as inexpensive as wearing a mask, if everybody does it, dramatically changes what’s possible. Also, lockdown or no, I have been talking to a lot of small business owners, especially here in the Midwest, who are saying when they are able to open, customers won’t know unless they know they are safe. At least 2 dead, 5 injured after man in ‘medieval clothes’ armed with ‘Japanese sword’ goes on stabbing spree in Quebec

At least two people were killed and five more wounded in a stabbing attack in Quebec, Canada on early Sunday morning. Police have arrested the suspect and announced that he does not appear to be connected to any terror group.

The attack took place near the regional parliament building. Police said the assailant was armed with a bladed weapon and dressed in “medieval clothes.”

After a brief manhunt, a 24 year-old man was arrested at around 1am local time.

Quebec City ​Police Chief Robert Pigeon said at a news conference on Sunday that a preliminary investigation had indicated that the suspect was not affiliated with any terror group.

Pigeon said that the suspect is from the suburbs north of Montreal and came to the provincial capital “with the intention of doing the most damage possible.” He added that all the evidence indicates that the attacker chose his victims at random and the crime was premeditated.

"Dressed in medieval costume and armed with a Japanese sword, everything leads us to believe he chose his victims at random," Pigeon said.

The police chief added that five years ago, while “in a medical context”, the suspect threatened to carry out an attack. However, he did not have a criminal record and was not known to police.

Radio Canada earlier reported that the suspect was taken to a hospital with hypothermia after his arrest.

The incident took place three days after a Tunisian migrant went on a stabbing rampage inside a Catholic church in the French Mediterranean city of Nice, killing three people. He was shot by police and taken into custody.

In another incident, Antifa-BLM protesters stole a flag from the Washington State Patrol building in Vancouver, Washington. They shouted: “What did you see? Didn’t see shit!”

In another video, they shouted, “Burn the flag! Burn the flag! Burn the flag!” They then joked about needing “marshmallows” and “warming [their] f**ing hands up … on the campfire.”

As they burned the American flag, they chanted, “All cops are bastards, all cops are bastards.”

They then called to “burn the precinct to the ground.”

“All America is wacked. We’re going to take these streets back!” protesters yelled.

BLM and Trump supporters clashed at a vigil in Portland. When a Trump flag and US flag were lit on fire, a reported “Trump supporter” grabbed the flags and “tried to put it out almost igniting himself.”

AP blames France for INCITING Muslims to chop heads off, deletes & rewrites tweet after ferocious criticism

The Associated Press has caved in to an avalanche of criticism, deleting a tweet that drew accusations of inciting hatred against French people by seemingly blaming France for the wave of Islamist terror attacks it has suffered.

“AP Explains: Why does France incite anger in the Muslim world? Its brutal colonial past, staunch secular policies and tough-talking president who is seen as insensitive toward the Muslim faith all play a role,” the offending message screamed from the official AP Twitter account. It also linked to an article which gave the AP’s analysis of why France has so frequently been the target of Muslim extremists.

Unsurprisingly the message provoked a furious backlash against the US media outlet, which was accused of endangering the lives of French people. “This is not only disgraceful but dangerous. The Associated Press is inciting hatred against France and its people,” journalist Agnes Poirier wrote.

Many respondents accused the AP of being “apologists” for terrorism and “justifying” the murder of innocent people. Respondents also shared photos and details about the lives of people who were murdered by terrorists in France.

The relentless onslaught of criticism prompted the New York-headquartered media organization to delete the message on Sunday. Before it was removed the inflammatory post had already racked up over 10,000 direct responses.

The AP subsequently published a watered down version of the post and issued an explanation for its use of the word ‘incites.’ However, it stopped short of an apology and the article remains on its website.

“Many countries champion freedom of expression and allow publications that lampoon Islam’s prophet. Why has the reaction against France been especially virulent? Its colonial past, staunch secular policies and tough-talking president all play a role,” the new message read.

“This replaces a tweet about France and the Muslim world that asked why France ‘incites’ anger. The word was not intended to convey that France instigates anger against it,” a follow-up post added.

England’s November lockdown to be extended throughout December if infection rate doesn’t go down, Gove confirms

UK Cabinet Office Minister Michael Gove has said that the government is ready to extend the lockdown in England throughout December if the coronavirus continues to surge. All decisions will be based on “evidence,” he stated.

Gove told Sky News’ Sophy Ridge that the government had hoped that a system of regional lockdown “could succeed” in curbing the surge in Covid-19 but, “unfortunately, over the course of the last two weeks the virus has been spreading faster than predicted.”

The planned second lockdown across England would last from November 5 to December 2, if the MPs approve the proposal by Prime Minister Boris Johnson. People would be asked not to leave their homes for non-essential travel, while bars, restaurants and ‘non-essential’ shops would have to close down.

Asked if the nationwide lockdown could be extended beyond December 2, Gove replied: “Yes.”

“We will always take a decision in the national interest, based on evidence,” the minister said, reiterating that the government is determined to do all it can to lift the restrictions as soon as possible.

“If we bring down the rate of infection sufficiently, we can reduce measures nationally and also reduce measure regionally,” Gove emphasized.

‘Cowardly and Incompetent’ Boris Johnson Faces Calls to Resign After Lockdown Announcement

Prime Minister Boris Johnson’s announcement that England will be placed under a second national lockdown was met with fury and derision in some quarters, with some going so far to call for his resignation.

On Saturday evening, Mr Johnson addressed the nation to announce the imposition of national lockdown restrictions starting from next Thursday, which also happens to be the same date as Guy Fawkes Day.

Mr Johnson said in his announcement that the rising number of coronavirus cases in England left him with “no alternative”, insisting: “We have got to be humble in the face of nature. In this country, alas, as in much of Europe, the virus is spreading even faster than the reasonable worst-case scenario of our scientific advisers.”

The announcement — which was originally planned for Monday, but was pushed forward after his intention to lock down the nation was leaked to the press on Saturday — drew waves of criticism for the embattled British leader.

Brexit Party leader Nigel Farage said: “On November 5th Boris is blowing up our economy, our liberty and his own legacy.”

British actor and leader of the Reclaim Party Laurence Fox called for Johnson to “resign”, writing on social media: “We are being ruled by one of the most and cowardly and incompetent fools of modern times [sic]. Staggering lack of leadership. Data yet again just conjecture. Worst case after worst case. 6 months at least to prepare the NHS. Resign Boris Johnson.”

London Assembly Member David Kurten added: “Boris is a menace to England. His Lockdown 2 is an unnecessary disaster. It is a lie that it is necessary. Sweden proves it. Disobey.”

The Prime Minister also faced criticism from members of his own party, including former Tory leader Sir Iain Duncan Smith, who said: “The PM’s announcement of [a second national lockdown] is a body blow to the British people.”

“Just as the economy was picking up, even giving cause for optimism, we’re now to impersonate the Grand Old Duke of York, giving in to the scientific advisers & marching England back into another lockdown,” Sir Iain said.

On Sunday morning, Cabinet Minister Michael Gove admitted that the government will consider extending the national lockdown past the initial four-week period, telling Sky News: “We will always take a decision in the national interest, based on evidence.”

“We want to be in a position where we can — and I believe that this is likely to be the case — have an approach where if we bring down the rate of infection sufficiently we can reduce measures nationally and also reduce measures regionally,” Gove said.

CDC Admits: No Conclusive Evidence Cloth Masks Work Against COVID

In a recent report in Emerging Infectious Diseases, the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) suggests what experts have stated all along: There is no conclusive evidence that cloth masks protects users from coronavirus, especially since most people do not use them correctly and do not keep them clean.

The report states:

More research on cloth masks is needed to inform their use as an alternative to surgical masks/respirators in the event of shortage or high-demand situations. To our knowledge, only 1 randomized controlled trial has been conducted to examine the efficacy of cloth masks in healthcare settings, and the results do not favor use of cloth masks.

More randomized controlled trials should be conducted in community settings to test the efficacy of cloth masks against respiratory infections.

There is increasing evidence that cloth masks not only may be ineffective against stopping coronavirus transmission, but that they may actually increase the spread of the virus, as well as worsening other health conditions.

A September report by the CDC found that more than 70 percent of COVID-positive patients contracted the virus in spite of faithful mask wearing while in public. Moreover, 14 percent of the patients who said they “often” wore masks were also infected. Meanwhile, just four percent of the COVID-positive patients said they “never” wore masks in the 14 days before the onset of their illness.

Likewise, the CDC’s October journal report references a 2015 study on cloth mask efficacy that found that rates of infection were “consistently higher” among those in the cloth mask group versus that of the medical mask and control groups. The authors of the study suggested it was likely that the cloth masks were problematic because they retained moisture and had poor filtration.

The CDC writes of that study, “This finding suggest that risk for infection was higher for those wearing cloth masks.”

The California Globe also observed that extensive randomized control trial (RCT) studies and meta-analysis reviews of those studies have shown that masks and respirators are ineffective against the spread of influenza-like illnesses and respiratory illnesses believed to be spread by droplet and aerosol particles. The Globe cited an analysis of 10 “randomized controlled tests” (RCTs) by the Center for Disease Control found “no significant reduction in influenza transmission with the use of face masks.”

“There is limited evidence for their [masks] effectiveness in preventing influenza virus transmission,” the studies found. This applied to masks “worn by the infected person for source control OR when worn by uninfected persons.” They concluded that there was “no significant effect of face masks on transmission of laboratory-confirmed influenza.”

Yet the CDC continues to recommend cloth masks for public use, even as the organization has flip-flopped on whether the virus is airborne. Their latest assertion is that airborne transmission is “sometimes” possible “under special circumstances.”

However, some experts have been sounding the alarm on the widespread use of masks, asserting they may cause more harm than good.

In fact, a group of doctors in Oklahoma is suing the Tulsa mayor and the Tulsa Health Department over the city’s mask mandate, asserting masks cause healthy people to become sick.

'There'll be nothing': Donald Trump says Joe Biden will take away Thanksgiving, Christmas and Easter to combat COVID in the first of his four rallies in critical Pennsylvania

President Donald Trump kicked off the first of four rallies in the battleground state of Pennsylvania on Saturday with an attack on his Democratic rival Joe Biden, accusing him of championing policies that took jobs from the state.

A smaller than normal crowd greeted the president in muddy field in Newton, Pennsylvania.

'Three days from now this is the state that will save the American dream,' he announced to his supporters. 'I am going to be here all day today.'

Trump wasted no time going after Biden, accusing him of betraying the people of Pennsylvania – the state where Biden was born.

He said Biden 'wiped out Pennsylvania steel,' was a 'cheerleader' for NAFTA, championed for China to join the World Trade Organization.

'In Pennsylvania you lost 50% of your manufacturing jobs after those Biden disasters,' the president told the crowd.

He said a vote for Biden would be a vote to end fracking, one of the major industries in Pennsylvania.

'A vote for Biden is a vote to ban fracking, and to send your state into a nightmare of poverty and depression. That's what's going to happen. It's your single biggest industry by far - probably a million jobs one way or the other,' he warned.

Biden said he doesn't want to ban fracking, although he wouldn't allow it on federal land. He seeks to end federal subsidies for oil production while spurring development of renewable energy.

'If Biden wins there will be no fracking no oil, no natural gas, no jobs and no future,' he said.

The group was spotted in McLean, Virginia on Saturday afternoon by a neighbor, who claimed they were there to express frustration that Barr is 'not doing enough to lock up Joe Biden,' according to Washington Post journalist Glen Kessler.

The Justice Department said that Barr went outside to greet the crowd and chatted with them amiably, according to AP reporter Mike Balsamo.

Photos show that one of the protesters had a white horse in the suburban neighborhood, for reasons that were unclear.

FCC Gives $8B for Rural 5G Broadband Even Though Taxpayers Have Already Paid Billions to Have Safe High Speed Internet

According to a lawsuit and the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) Chairman, all Americans have already paid to have high-speed internet where they live (see 1, 2, 3, 4). Regardless, the FCC is giving telecoms $8B more to install 5G in rural areas even though it is NOT safe or necessary for high-speed internet.

FCC adopts 5G rural fund, new coverage maps still needed

The Report and Order adopted Tuesday at the FCC’s open meeting sets up the 5G Fund for Rural America that includes up to $8 billion in Universal Service Fund (USF) dollars to be awarded in the first phase of a multi-round reverse auction for 5G buildouts over 10 years. These are focused on parts of the country that don’t have unsubsidized 4G LTE or 5G mobile service. Of that, $650 million is allocated for providers that plan to serve Tribal lands. The second phase provides at least $1 billion for deployments for precision agriculture technologies and areas remaining after Phase 1.

The FCC called out these components of the new 5G Fund:

When determining eligible locations, it appears the FCC will exclude areas where T-Mobile committed to deploy 5G service as part of its merger-related agreement approval of its Sprint deal. That includes covering 90% of rural Americans within six years. The FCC says this will avoid overbuilding and wasting resources.

The reverse auction will factor in and adjust for areas that are particularly expensive to deploy or don’t have a good business case, because of things like rugged terrain or low population, to ensure they can compete in the auction.

Winning bidders of the 5G Fund have to deliver 5G mobile broadband speeds of at least 35 Mbps downloads and 3 Mbps uploads, and meet deployment benchmarks starting in the third year, and final milestones by the end of year six.

Carriers that get legacy mobile high-cost support have to start spending an increasing portion of their $368 million in funds to deliver 5G in rural areas that considered more expensive to support.

High-speed internet is safer with a wired internet connection (see 1, 2). Unfortunately, the FCC was a corrupt and “captured agency before Trump was elected and has become much worse ever since. Lawsuits have been filed against them for NOT protecting the public from unsafe levels of radiation as well as 5G on Earth (see 1, 2, 3, 4) and in space.

The agency refuses to update 24-year-old federal wireless radiation exposure guidelines. State representatives in Hawaii and Illinois have introduced 5G bills to protect constituents.

In 2019, telecom executives gave U.S. congressional testimony that they had NO independent scientific evidence that 5G is safe. The majority of scientists worldwide oppose deployment. Cities worldwide AND entire countries have taken action to ban, delay, halt, and limit installation AS WELL AS issue moratoriums.

Biden up by 10 points in new national poll

Democratic nominee Joe Biden holds a 10-point lead over President Trump in a national poll of registered voters released just two days before the election.

Biden leads Trump in the NBC News/Wall Street Journal poll, 52 to 42 percent.

Two weeks ago, the former vice president had an 11-point lead, 53 to 42 percent, NBC News reported.

Biden has a combined 6-point edge, 51 to 45 percent, in 12 battleground states: Arizona, Florida, Georgia, Iowa, Maine, Michigan, Minnesota, North Carolina, New Hampshire, Nevada, Pennsylvania and Wisconsin, according to the poll.

Biden currently holds an 82-point lead among Black voters in the poll, and is ahead of the president by 28 points among voters age 18 to 34, by 23 points among senior citizens, by 20 points among women, by 15 points among white voters with college degrees and independents.

Trump has a 21-point lead among white voters without college degrees and a 6-point edge among white voters.

A majority of those respondents who said they have already voted or plan to vote early sided with Biden while a majority of those who plan to cast their ballots on Election Day back the president, in findings consistent with other surveys.

Pollsters found that 45 percent of voters now approve of Trump’s job performance, while 52 percent disapprove. The gap was 10 points two weeks ago, with 44 percent approving and 54 percent disapproving.

Almost half of registered voters – 48 percent – also said they would prefer that Democrats control Congress. Forty-three percent chose Republicans. The findings were virtually identical to a survey in August, NBC News noted.

Six in 10 respondents also said the country is heading in the wrong direction, while 31 percent said it is going in the right direction.

And a majority 55 percent said the worst of the coronavirus pandemic is yet to come. About a quarter said the worst of the pandemic is behind us and 15 percent said it's not a major problem.

The new survey of 1,000 registered voters, conducted Oct. 29 through Oct. 31, has a margin of error of 3.1 percentage points.

The NBC News/Wall Street Journal poll aligns with several previous national polls showing Biden leading Trump nationally while maintaining a slight lead in battleground states.

IDF chief’s helicopter makes emergency landing after motor malfunction

In second such incident this year, Kohavi’s chopper forced to land at army base in central Israel

A helicopter carrying IDF Chief of Staff Aviv Kohavi made an emergency landing at a base in central Israel on Sunday after it experienced a technical malfunction, the military said.

There were no injuries in the incident, according to the Israel Defense Forces.

It was the second time this year that a Black Hawk helicopter carrying Kohavi experienced a malfunction.

According to the military, while transporting the army chief, the helicopter pilots saw a warning of a motor malfunction, prompting them to quickly land the aircraft at an undisclosed base in central Israel.

Kohavi then continued on to his destination in a car, the IDF said.

“The matter will be investigated,” a military spokesperson said.

In July, a Black Hawk carrying Kohavi made an emergency landing after it experienced a motor issue and reportedly plummeted to some 30 meters (100 feet) from the ground. The army, which confirmed that the incident occurred, said the glitch was not life-threatening, but Channel 12, which first reported on the matter, said the incident nearly led to a “disaster” due to incorrect handling of the situation by the flight crew.

Death toll from earthquake in western Turkey rises to 58 - Erdogan

896 others were wounded

ANKARA, November 1. /TASS/. At least 58 people were killed and 896 others were wounded in a powerful earthquake in Izmir, in western Turkey, President Recep Tayyip Erdogan told reporters on Sunday.

"Some 58 our citizens were killed in the quake, 896 people were injured," the Turkish leader said in his speech on national television.

Earlier reports said 55 people had been killed.

According to Health Minister Fahrettin Koca, 2,076 rescuers continue a search effort at the site of eight destroyed houses. More than 680 people have been discharged from hospitals and another 214 those injured are receiving medical assistance, the minister said.

The 6.7 magnitude earthquake struck off Turkey's Aegean coast and north of the Greek island of Samos on Friday. It was also felt in Istanbul and Athens. At least 20 houses in Izmir were ruined and some destruction was also reported in the Greek town of Karlovasi.
