Major fire at Istanbul hospital sends plume of black smoke into the sky (VIDEOS)

A fire broke out at the Istanbul University's Medical Facility Hospital on Sunday, triggering a major response from the city's firefighters. Thankfully, the blaze occurred in a building that is not currently in use.

Istanbul residents were disturbed on Sunday by the sight of a big plume of black smoke rising from the Fatih district. It emanated from a huge fire that was engulfing a building under construction, owned by the Medical Faculty Hospital of the Istanbul University.

According to Turkish media, the smoke could be seen as far away as the Zeytinburnu neighborhood – a distance of some five kilometers. There were also reports of small explosions heard at the scene. Multiple fire brigades were dispatched to deal with the blaze.

Some good news: Australia records zero Covid cases for first time in nearly five months

As European nations rush headlong into lockdowns and several countries post record case numbers, it’s not all doom and gloom on the Covid front; Australia has reported no new community infections for the first time since June.

The development paves the way for a further easing of harsh lockdown restrictions that have been in place in the country, particularly in the state of Victoria, which accounts for the vast majority of Australia’s 907 deaths related to the disease.

Sunday saw Australia record no new daily infections for the first time since June 9. “Thank you to all of our amazing health & public health workers & above all else the Australian people,” Health Minister Greg Hunt said on Twitter, after the statistics were released.

"It’s wholly un-American": Harris County drive-thru voters await court rulings as Texas Republicans push to invalidate 127,000 votes

A conservative activist and three Republican candidates have asked state and federal courts to toss the votes and shut down drive-thru voting in the state's most populous, and largely Democratic, county.

For 18 days of early voting, Harris County residents waited in line, had their identities verified by poll workers, and cast their votes in a presidential election that has seen record-breaking early turnout.

But for the nearly 127,000 people who did so at drive-thru polling places instead of in traditional indoor sites, many are now watching with fear as a wealthy conservative activist, a Republican state representative and two GOP candidates aim to throw out their ballots at the last minute. In the state’s most populous — and largely Democratic — county, drive-thru voters are left anxiously awaiting court decisions before Election Day on Tuesday that could force them to go back to the polls. Likely many more are unaware of their votes' potential demise.

The Republican legal effort could jeopardize 10% of the in-person early votes that were cast at 10 drive-thru polling places throughout the county — a vote count higher than the entire early vote total in Nueces County, home of Corpus Christi and the state's 16th most populous county.

Denver KILLER who shot Trump supporter while working for MEDIA denied lower bail request; READ: Judge’s order not BUYING self-defense

A District Court Judge in Denver, Colorado has denied a defense request to lower the bond for accused murderer Matthew Dolloff, the man who was hired by a local news station and while working for them shot and killed a Trump supporter on camera.

It is both the nature of the incident and the incredible level of detail available with regard to the very moments of the act that compelled the judge’s decision, as he wrote in his letter of explanation (in full below.)

“The interaction between the Defendant and the victim, and the shooting itself, are captured by a series of clear, detailed, still-frame photographs mostly separated by fractions of a second. The precision with which the moment of the charged homicide is captured is unprecedented in the Court’s experience,” said Judge John Madden IV in the six-page order. College Democrat and leftist clubs at two Philadelphia-area schools promoted bail funds amid riots in the City of Brotherly Love.

The Temple University College Democrats in Philadelphia retweeted a post from the Philadelphia Community Bail Fund, contained phone numbers that people who were arrested could call to receive bail money.

Mass mailing service Mailchimp, a US based marketing automation service, has updated its Terms of Use regarding types of content that are prohibited for distribution on the platform.
