Holy Mass Dedicated to Victims of Nice Attack Held on All Saints' Day

A Holy Mass dedicated to the three victims of the attack in the Basilica of Notre-Dame in Nice was held on All Saints' day.

The ceremony, broadcast by KTO Catholic television, lasted almost two hours on Sunday and was presided over by Bishop of Nice Andre Marceau. Relatives of the victims were present at the mass, which was open only to parishioners, as well as Nice Mayor Christian Estrosi.

On 29 October, a 21-year-old man from Tunisia, later identified as Brahim Aoussaoui, killed three people with a knife in the Notre-Dame Basilica in Nice. The French government has designated it a terrorist attack.

The attacker was injured by police and is currently at a hospital in Nice. Estrosi said the man repeatedly shouted "Allahu Akbar" (God is great) during the attack. According to the French authorities, the attacker crossed into France from Italy at the start of October.

An anti-terrorism investigation is underway. A total of six people have reportedly been questioned on suspicion of being linked to the attacker.

Another attack occurred in France's Lyon this week. A Greek Orthodox priest, identified as 52-year-old Nikolaos Kakavelaki, was shot at and injured in the 7th district of Lyon near a Greek church on Saturday afternoon. He is now in serious condition at the hospital. The gunman fled the scene of the shooting and is likely still at large, as Lyon police have released the initial suspect in the attack.

The Lyon and Nice attacks occurred as France is experiencing national dismay in the wake of an increasing Islamic threat following the brutal murder of French history teacher Samuel Paty by a radicalised teenager in mid-October.

The word Jew is anti-Semitic and racist

Anti-Semitic and racist graffiti scrawled on street in New Jersey town

A northern New Jersey town woke up on Halloween morning to find anti-Semitic and racist graffiti scribbled on the streets of their neighborhood.

The mayor of Woodcliff Lake shared the photographs of the graffiti scrawled in white chalk on Woodmont Drive which included a swastika, the drawing of a penis, and the words ‘Jews’ and’ n——.‘

“These images are disturbing and criminal. It is vandalism and a hate crime. The perpetrators will be dealt with to the fullest extent of the law,” Woodcliff Lake Mayor Carols A. Rendo said.

The crime happened on Mischief Night, where teenagers usually dangle toilet paper and silly string from trees, and throw soap or egg yolks on parked cars the night before Halloween.

Rendo told the Post, “A resident text me early in the morning and I was quite disturbed and upset by it.” He expects that the perpetrators are “ignorant kids who thought it was funny.”

There are a significant number of Jewish Americans who reside in Woodcliff Lake.

“I am appalled by these anti-Semitic acts. This is a hate crime and should be prosecuted to the full extent of the law,” Cathy Pollak, a 31 year resident of WCL told The Post.

Danielle Shugar Berkowicz commented on Facebook, “Anyone old enough to draw a swastika is able to understand it’s true meaning. Really upsetting and horrifying this could happen in our town.”

The police are in the process of conducting an investigation.

“The WCLPD is investigating a bias incident regarding hate speech and symbols displayed in the area of Woodmont Drive,” tweeted the police department. “We are taking this matter very seriously as this conduct is unacceptable in our community.”

New Jersey saw bias crimes rise 73% in 2019 to 345 incidents, the most ever recorded in the state and the second-highest nationwide behind New York State.

Australia Post CEO Christine Holgate resigns after PM tells her ‘she should go’

Embattled Australia Post boss Christine Holgate has resigned just weeks after the Prime Minister bluntly told her if she didn’t wish to stand aside “she should go”.

Embattled Australia Post boss Christine Holgate has resigned just weeks after the Prime Minister bluntly told her if she didn’t wish to stand aside “she should go”.

In a statement, Ms Holgate said she offered her resignation and would not seek financial compensation.

“I have offered today the Chairman and Board of Australia, with great sadness, my resignation as chief executive with immediate effect,” she said.

“As Christmas approaches, it is critically important that Australia Post is absolutely focussed on supporting our customers and communities.

“We have prepared significantly for this peak, but still face significant challenges — keeping our people safe, managing the biggest ecommerce Christmas ever and planning in the face of unpredictable seasonal weather.

“I firmly believe that the ‘ship’ needs a strong captain at the helm to help navigate through this time.

“The current issue I am managing is a significant distraction and I do not believe it is good for either Australia Post or my personal wellbeing.

“Consequently, I have made the difficult decision to resign, hoping it will allow the organisation to fully focus on serving our customers.”

Ms Holgate said she also now accepted that the Cartier watches did not “pass the pub test”.

“I deeply regret that a decision made two years ago, which was supported by the Chair, to recognise the outstanding work of four employees has caused so much debate and distraction and I appreciate the optics of the gifts involved do not pass the ‘pub test’ for many,” she said.

“I still believe firmly that the people who achieved the Bank@Post outcome for Australia Post deserved recognition, their work secured a $220m investment over the following years, which dramatically improved the financial performance of the company, protected a critical community service which more than 50 per cent of the communities in Australia depend on and made our Community Post Offices sustainable for the long term.”

Ms Holgate’s job is one of the highest paid jobs leading a government enterprise in the nation.

It’s unclear whether her resignation means she will continue to co-operate with an inquiry into the purchase of four Cartier watches but some government sources indicated she was happy to do so.

It follows her lawyers hinting on Friday that a bitter legal war could loom over the Prime Minister’s “humiliating” decision to stand her down.

In a bombshell statement released by her lawyers last week, Ms Holgate — who was on a $1.5 million a year salary — had revealed her own legal advice suggests there is “no basis” to stand her down.

“Legally, in my opinion there are no grounds for Ms Holgate to be stood down, and ‘optics’ not a legally-valid defence,” the statement from Bryan Belling, partner at employment law firm Kingston Reid said, according to the Sydney Morning Herald.

“Nor has she been informed as to why she should be stood down.”

'These patriots did nothing wrong': Trump slams the FBI for investigating MAGA convoy which ran a Biden bus out of Texan town and demands agency and DOJ probe ANTIFA instead

A convoy of Trump supporters 'ambushed' a Biden campaign bus on a Texas highway on Friday afternoon

President Trump shared support for the convoy after the FBI announced an investigation on Sunday

'In my opinion, these patriots did nothing wrong,' Trump tweeted. 'Instead, the FBI & Justice should be investigating the terrorists, anarchists, and agitators of ANTIFA'

Trump had previously praised the convoy by retweeting a video of it and writing: 'I LOVE TEXAS'

Other videos showed cars flying MAGA flags driving perilously close to the bus and at one point even running into a Biden staff member's car

The confrontation resulted in Democrats cancelling three scheduled events in the state

Joe Biden attacked Trump's support for the convoy participants on Sunday, saying: 'We've never had anything like this. At least we've never had a president who thinks it's a good thing'

President Donald Trump has doubled down on his support for a convoy of MAGA fans accused of trying to run a Biden campaign bus off the road in Texas.

Trump weighed in on Twitter on Sunday night, after the FBI confirmed that it had opened an investigation into the confrontation between the 50-strong convoy and the Biden bus on Friday afternoon on Interstate 35 in Hays County, Texas.

'In my opinion, these patriots did nothing wrong,' the president wrote. 'Instead, the FBI & Justice should be investigating the terrorists, anarchists, and agitators of ANTIFA, who run around burning down our Democrat run cities and hurting our people!'

Trump had voiced his support for the convoy earlier on Saturday by tweeting a video of MAGA flag-flying cars surrounding the Biden bus as it made its way down the highway, writing: 'I LOVE TEXAS.'

Other videos shared on social media painted a more dangerous portrait of the confrontation, showing cars driving perilously close to the bus and at one point even running into a Biden staff member's car.

The confrontation resulted in Democrats cancelling three scheduled events in the state - which is considered a battleground amid a surge in early-voting.

Joe Biden attacked Trump's support for the convoy participants between campaign stops in Philadelphia on Sunday, saying: 'We've never had anything like this. At least we've never had a president who thinks it's a good thing.'
