Most abused children are kept isolated, away from what is considered normal so the child has no reference for right and wrong. The threath of witholding 'love' is a tool as well, the threat of being taken away from your parent (s), feared into believing the child is at fault "Look what you made me do!"… the list is endless and it's all mind fuckery
