It is essential to preserve the illusion that elections and news are full sided views and so on. Authorized dissent is a thing. Populations that know or believe their system is feeding them BS can only be governed with brute force. They lose drive and way underperform. Leaders of impoverished, sick, nonproductive populations still do well, but not as good as they would do with productive plantations.
