Demski, who was a Long Beach, California native, passed away in 2002 with a tremendous accomplishment under his belt. Not only did he run for Mayor of Long Beach each year, he was the owner of the largest American Flag ever produced.

His obituary in the Los Angeles Times read, “Thomas “Ski” Demski, who owned the world’s largest flag, according to the Guinness Book of World Records, and also had the Stars and Stripes tattooed on his torso, painted on his house and flying from the 132-foot flagpole in his front yard, has died. He was 72.”

The flag, known as “superflag” measures 505 feet by 225 feet and weighs 3,000 pounds. It takes 500 people to stretch out and hold.

→ Each star is an astonishing 17 feet high.

For context, his flag is about one and a half football fields long, and almost an entire football field wide. Every star is the size three average sized men stacked on top of each other. In other words, it’s outrageously large.

According to a RoadSideAmerica.com story, “Superflag has been unfurled at Super Bowls, in front of the Washington Monument, even dangled from Hoover Dam for an awe-inspiring photo opportunity.” Demski, when asked by RoadSideAmerica.com why he loved flags as much as he did, said “Because it represents our country and what it stands for. It means freedom to me and there’s no sweeter word.”
