Texas, Georgia And More Key Swing States Extend Voting Hours After Technical Glitches

Several key swing states have extended voting hours after technical glitches at polling sites slowed voting earlier in the day. A number of voting locations in Texas, Georgia and North Carolina will remain open past original cutoff times Tuesday night.

The extensions will likely result in a delay in results from these critical swing states, further prolonging the announcement of the election's victor.

In Texas, Hidalgo County joined Upsher County, in becoming the second county to keep its polling locations open an extra hour on Tuesday, until 8 p.m. CT.

The Hidalgo County Elections Department said in a news release that 10 of the county's polling places experienced technical problems due to "laptop check-in issues." All 74 voting locations will be open for an extra hour.

Making sure our voters have the opportunity to cast their ballot is our utmost priority," Elections Administrator Yvonne Ramรณn said. "Extending the closure of the polls to 8 p.m. will provide that opportunity to the voters of Hidalgo County."

Texas voters in Upsher County will also have the additional hour to cast their ballots. A state district judge extended poll hours on Tuesday morning after "polling equipment issues" led to voting delays of close to 90 minutes.
