You know not that which you try to speak as a master. It is not "psychobabble" as you ignorantly claim. It is simple human behavior. When an individual prefaces a statement with distancing qualification, the individual is acknowledging that he/she is fully aware of that perception and does not want it assigned to him/her as he/she proceeds with the planned communication.
