I saw an "explanation" for the sudden count in Biden's Michigan vote, where 138,339 votes were suddenly added to the count, 100% for Biden. This was obviously suspicious, but the explanation has been floated that this was a correction for Shiawassee County's Biden count having accidentally dropped a zero (initially reported as 15,371 when the correct count was 153,710). The difference of 138,339 (153,710 corrected minus 15,371 already reported) exactly matches the 100% Biden vote added last night, so this plausibly where the additional votes came from. However, Wikipedia lists the TOTAL population of the county as 70,648. So the apparently plausible explanation appears bogus. Known facts: Biden's count in Michigan jumped suddenly by 138,339 while Trump's numbers stayed flat. So this certainly LOOKS like 138,339 ballots were suddenly "found" and 100% of these ballots were for Biden. I can see why people are saying this!

Not so fast. It appears to be fraud, but of a more sinister and calculating variety that didn't involve actually even "finding" ANY ballots!

It's been reported that this was due to a "typo" where Shiawassee County's vote for Biden was incorrectly reported as 153,710 when it was really 15,371 (adding a zero).

But this is no ordinary typo.

138,339 (the number of mystery votes) exactly matches 153,710 minus 15,371. What this means is that the correct number of Biden votes (15,371) had already been reported and incorporated into Michigan's tally - and somehow an additional zero was added AFTER the complete county results had already been tabulated and folded into the statewide results.

This kind of error doesn't involve finding ANY additional ballots. So I'd like to see the "100,000 ballots were found in the middle of the night" meme go away. Unless that happened somewhere else, it's not true. And statistical claims that you can't have 100% of the ballots going to one candidate entirely miss the mark – there were no ballots involved! Unfortunately, language like that feeds into false impressions of what's going on, as if there were a stack of real ballots that ever existed, and were all for Biden.

And I can't see how to account for this as a typo, because the county's returns had already been finalized and incorporated by the state. Someone had to add the zero AFTER the county's results were already in place.
