Chris Swain, director of the Collegedale Municipal Airport, said one person has died after a plane crash on the runway Friday.
Mr Swain said the plane with a single occupant was taking off when it crashed.
He added: "It's always sad when something like this happens.โ
The person involved in the fatal event has not yet been identified.
The Federal Aviation Administration and National Transportation Safety Board have been made aware of the incident and are on the way to the scene.
Police say the crash happened around 6:30 pm near 5100 Bess Moore Road.
It is understood that this is not the first plane crash to happen at Collegedale Municipal Airport. Five other planes have crashed at the airport since 2004.
Three were killed at the site back in 2016 after a pilot attempted to recover a landing before the plane hit the ground.
The pilot of the craft at the time, Todd Silver, was killed.
His mother and son also died in the incident.
Mr Silverโs daughter was involved in the incident - she was seriously injured.
Has Todd Silver's name cropped up in any of our digging?
David Rockerfeller is pushing up daisies. We're not sure if Jacob died in the helicopter collision on the Wadsworth estate. That list could be getting shorter..
