CIA Democrat House Rep. Takes Lead Over GOP Challenger After 14,616 Votes Found On 'Memory Stick'

Democratic incumbent Abigail Spanberger, a "former" CIA operations officer, took the lead over her Republican challenger Nick Freitas in Virginia's 7th Congressional District by 5,134 votes on Wednesday and swiftly declared victory after "14,616 central absentee votes" were found on a "mislabeled memory stick."

"In CD7, Spanberger now leads by 5,134 votes after Henrico County posts 14,616 central absentee votes that were overlooked on Election night," The Virginia Public Access Project reported. "Officials overlooked the ballots, which were saved on a memory stick mislabeled as 'provisional ballots.'"

Seventh Mexican Journalist Murdered in 2020

Mexican authorities in the border state of Sonora are looking into the shooting death of a local journalist. The murder comes four days after separate gunmen killed another reporter in Ciudad Juarez, near El Paso, Texas.

The murder took place on Monday night in Cajeme, Sonora, when Jesus Alfonso Pinuelas, 43, was riding a motorcycle near the Amanecer del Valle neighborhood. Gunmen fired at him several times. The crime marks the seventh murder of a journalist in Mexico for 2020.

According to authorities, Pinuelas worked as a cameraman for several TV stations and also in private security in Hermosillo. He delivered food to supplement his income more recently. Pinuelas also ran a Facebook-based news publication called “Zarathustra Prensa El Shock de la Noticia,” the press freedom organization Periodistas Desplazados revealed.

'It's bonkers and dangerous for public health!' Social media users blast 'insane' Oregon voters for approving measure to decriminalize possession of ALL drugs including HEROIN and COCAINE

Social media users have blasted 'crazy' Oregon voters for deciding to decriminalize personal possession of all drugs, including heroin and methamphetamine.

The proposal, known formally as Oregon Ballot Measure 110, passed on Tuesday, with 58.8 percent support.

Under the new measures, instead of going to trial and facing possible jail time, a person found with the hard drugs in their possession will have the option of paying a $100 fine or attending new 'addiction recovery centers'.

While the proposal has been praised by drug reform activists, many on social media expressed shock that Oregonians had voted to pass the measure with such broad support.

'I'm so p***ed that Oregon passed 110. You really just decriminalized heroin. The drug that KILLED my cousin. He only shot up a 'personal use' amount and now he's gone,' one railed on Twitter.

Michigan County Clerk Discovers Total Votes Counted by “Election Software” DID NOT MATCH Printed Tabulator Tapes!

So this is happening.

An election clerk in Michigan discovered that the total votes counted by election software DID NOT MATCH the printed tabulator tapes.

Again — the Michigan software used to count votes is putting out incorrect totals!

Wow!

WILX reported:

The Antrim County Clerk Office noticed some inaccuracies with posted unofficial results at 4 a.m. on Tuesday. They immediately reviewed the results.

The Antrim County Clerk’s Office has been working around the clock to identify what caused the inaccuracies.

The total votes that were counted by the election software did not match printed tabulator tapes. Official results were based upon the printed tabulator tapes.

Therefore, the printed tabulated tapes from each precinct will be counted manually. The results will be deemed “official” once the independent board of canvassers verifies them.

Socialists chant ‘F–k Trump, f–k Biden too’ during Chicago rally

These socialists are equal-opportunity haters.

The Democratic Socialists of America marched through Chicago Wednesday night chanting a crude attack — on both presidential candidates.

“F–k Trump, f–k Biden too, they don’t give a f–k about you!” chanted the local branch of the party best known for “Squad” members Reps. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) and Rashida Tlaib (D-Mich.).

The party “just found the chant for the lame-duck session,” National Political Committee member Sean Estelle wrote on Twitter alongside a clip seen more than 200,000 times Thursday morning.

“The streets are ours tonight, comrades,” Estelle wrote, with photos showing the marchers behind a large banner calling to disarm, defund and abolish police.

The video shared by the party showed hundreds chanting with the large “Trump” sign on the president’s hotel in the Windy City, with the Republican an obvious target for the left-wing group.

More surprising was the attack on Biden, the left’s only hope to immediately replace the current president.

The video was shared by numerous DSA chapters across the US, with the Metro Cincinnati and Northern Kentucky branch calling it “a chant we can get behind!”

“Neither Trump nor Biden gives a f–k about the working class, and we have to be organized to fight for socialism no matter who is in office,” the group tweeted.

Mississippi Votes to End Jim Crow Electoral College-Like System; Popular Vote to Choose Governor

Mississippi has voted to end a Jim Crow-era constitutional provision intended to dilute the Black vote and ensure white voters would be able to choose governors and other statewide officials. It created an electoral college-like system requiring candidates for statewide office to win, not only the popular vote, but also a majority of Mississippi House districts.

With 67% of the vote in at 10:35 p.m., about 78% of Mississippi voters had approved the change.

Now, though, the popular vote alone will decide the victor in races for governor and the state’s other top offices.

After Mississippi’s Legislature amended the state constitution in 1890, white supremacist Missisippi House Rep. James K. Vardaman was not shy about declaring its purpose in the post-Reconstruction landscape.

“There is no use to equivocate or lie about the matter. Mississippi’s constitutional convention was held for no other purpose than to eliminate the ngger from politics—not the ignorant, but the ngger,” said Vardaman, known as Mississippi’s “Great White Chief,” who served as speaker of the Mississippi House and, later, as a governor and U.S. senator.

The new Jim Crow constitution steamrolled civil rights and voting-rights gains Black Mississippians had made in the years during the Civil War and slavery’s end. Decades later, the 1964 Civil Rights Act and the 1965 Voting Rights Act ended many of its provisions, such as literacy tests and poll taxes for voting.

On Election Day, Mississippi voters had the opportunity to vote to rid the state constitution of a remnant that still remains from the one Vardaman helped design: A state-level elections law similar to the national electoral college system that requires candidates for eight statewide offices, including governor, to win not only the popular vote, but a majority of House districts.

Under the system, if a candidate does not win both the popular vote and a majority of House of Representative districts, the Mississippi House decides the winner.

When the Jim Crow constitution was crafted in 1890, Black Mississippians accounted for a majority of the state. If Black men had been able to overcome other Jim Crow provisions and exercise the right to vote, the system would have ensured white Mississippians still maintained power over the state’s top leaders; white Mississippians represented a majority in most house districts at the time.

A campaign of government-sanctioned racial terror, intimidation tactics and the other Jim Crow provisions made the provision moot, however. The provision did come into play in 1999, however, when Democrat Ronnie Musgrove won the popular vote for governor, but not a majority of House districts. But Democrats still held a strong majority in the Mississippi House, which declared Musgrove the winner.

The law became a flashpoint in last year’s statewide elections, though, when then-Attorney General Jim Hood, a Democrat, mounted a close race for the top job against then-Lt. Gov. Tate Reeves, who ultimately won in an election where all statewide winners were Republican. Democrats worried that, if Hood had won the popular vote but not a majority of House districts, the House, which now has a Republican supermajority, would have declared Reeves the victor anyway.

A group of Mississippians challenged the law in federal court last year with assistance from former U.S. Attorney General Eric Holder’s National Democratic Redistricting Committee.

Alabama approves bid to cut racist phrases from Constitution

Alabama voters have approved an amendment that would begin the process of deleting racist language from the state’s 119-year-old constitution, which was approved to entrench white supremacy as state law during the Jim Crow era.

Voters in the majority white, conservative state rejected similar proposals twice since 2000, but the measure passed easily in balloting Tuesday.

Glenn Crowell, a retired restaurateur and registered Republican who is Black, said he voted to strip away the old phrasing, which the amendment’s sponsors viewed as an embarrassment and potential roadblock to economic development.

“I just want to get rid of that language. It just doesn’t make any sense nowadays,” said Crowell, 63, of Montgomery.

Courts have long since struck down the legalized segregation that was enshrined in the 1901 Alabama Constitution, but language banning mixed-race marriage, allowing poll taxes and mandating school segregation remains.

With more than 1.7 million votes cast, the amendment passed with 67% support. That means more than 585,000 people voted against it. The ballot didn’t mention race, and some voters might not have even known what the amendment involved.

Gov. Kay Ivey didn’t take an official position on any of six amendments that were on the ballot, including the anti-racism measure.

Passage eased the fears of supporters who worried that conservative backlash to the Black Lives Matter movement could hurt the proposal, which qualified for the ballot with bipartisan legislative support months before nationwide demonstrations erupted in the wake of the police killing of George Floyd.

Called Amendment 4, the proposal allows state officials to recompile the constitution without the racist language. Partly because even local issues require constitutional changes, the document already has been amended 948 times and is considered the nation’s longest constitution.

Statehouse workers will create a draft to excise offensive wording, although sponsors said it was unclear exactly how much might be removed. Legislators then will consider the updated document in 2022, and voters would have to approve the changes again before they take effect.

Aside from cutting racist phrasing, the amendment also allows the Legislature to remove repeated language and combine sections related to economic development or specific counties.

Information technology specialist Phillip Evans, who is Black and voted for Democrat Joe Biden for president, voted for the change.

“That wasn’t one of the major ones that I was looking at it but I saw it in there and I was like, ‘Yeah, that makes sense,’” said Evans, 41.

Trump Cannot Just “Go” To The Supreme Court To Fight Election Results. Here’s What Would Need To Happen To End Up There.

WASHINGTON — In the early hours of Wednesday, with many states still going through the lawful process of tallying votes, President Donald Trump declared: “We will be going to the Supreme Court.”

That’s not how the courts work, though. With rare exceptions that don’t apply to the election, no one can simply bring a case to the US Supreme Court. Trump’s rhetoric created an appearance of legal uncertainty around the election results that doesn’t exist yet — by Wednesday evening, there were a handful of lawsuits pending, but none involved the kind of consequential fights over final vote tallies that would decide the outcome of the race.

That could change, of course. Trump’s campaign said they’ll seek a recount in Wisconsin after former vice president Joe Biden was declared the winner, and could try to go to court to challenge the results if he still lost after that. Decision Desk HQ called Wisconsin for Biden outright on Wednesday.

There’s already a case pending before the Supreme Court about whether Pennsylvania can count absentee ballots that arrive between Nov. 4 and Nov. 6, but that would only be a vehicle for deciding the election if the race came down to Pennsylvania’s 20 electoral votes — and if those as-yet-unknown number of post–Election Day ballots would change the outcome.

Regardless of whether the Trump campaign’s lawsuits succeed in stopping any ballots from being counted, they’ve underscored Trump and his campaign’s efforts to falsely question the lawfulness of ballot counting that extends beyond Election Day — something that happens in every election. On Wednesday, dozens of Michigan residents tried to disrupt ballot counting at a site in Detroit, spurred by fake information that spread online of widespread fraud.

Trump’s campaign filed five new legal actions on Wednesday. Two are aimed at halting ballot counting in Michigan and Pennsylvania on the grounds that the Trump campaign and Republicans haven’t gotten as much access to observe the process as they argue they’re entitled to under the law; in the Pennsylvania case, the campaign lost the first round before a judge in Philadelphia. On Election Day, the Trump campaign unsuccessfully asked the Nevada Supreme Court to stop ballot counting in Clark County on the grounds that they weren’t being given access to observe the process.

Another Trump campaign lawsuit filed Wednesday accuses Pennsylvania of giving certain first-time voters too much time to comply with an ID requirement (the campaign said they’d filed this case but hadn’t released the court filings by publication time), and the fourth seeks to join the Pennsylvania case already before the Supreme Court. Shortly before publication time on Wednesday night, the campaign filed a new lawsuit in Chatham County, Georgia, but it wasn't an effort to halt ballot counting — the campaign alleged it received information that absentee ballots that arrived after the state's Election Day deadline might be improperly mingled with valid ballots, and asked the judge to enter an order making sure none were counted.

Republican pollster Frank Luntz calls his profession 'a systematic failure' and APOLOGIZES to rival who put Donald Trump ahead by 1% in mid-western states

A prominent Republican pollster called political polling a 'systematic failure' after most major surveyors got it wrong again four years after incorrectly predicting that Hillary Clinton would beat Donald Trump.

Frank Luntz told DailyMail.com that the main reason pollsters couldn't get it right in 2016 or 2020 is because the president's voters don't 'cooperate' with pollsters.

'Trump voters assume polls and pollsters have an agenda that doesn't include them, so they refuse to cooperate,' Luntz said. 'That's why they're underrepresented. That's why they get left out of the polls.'

'The only way to fix this is to let Trump voters know they have a voice and that their opinions truly matter,' he suggested.

He also levied an apology to a rival pollster for Trump, John McLaughlin, who correctly predicted in his polling that key rust belt states would go for Trump by very slight margins.

'I owe an apology to @JMcLghln, who had the key Rust Belt states (Pennsylvania, Michigan, and Wisconsin) going for Trump by 1% margins or less,' Luntz tweeted Wednesday.

'No matter which way those states ultimately go, John's numbers were closer than the semi-blowout margins from mainstream pollsters,' he continued.

Luntz's tweets came after he posted over the weekend that he didn't believe the polling numbers from McLaughlin.

'Trump pollster @JMcLghln is privately telling people that Trump is ahead in ALL the swing states – including Penn and Michigan, and tied in Wisconsin,' Luntz tweeted on Saturday. 'I don't believe it. But if he's right, he's a genius. If he's wrong, I wonder if he'll ever work again.'

Several polls suggested there would be huge margins of victory for Biden in midwest states that the president won in 2016. Although some, like Wisconsin, have been called for Biden, it was at a much smaller margin than polls showed ahead of Election Day.

Luntz doesn't seem to believe that polling discrepancies and inaccuracies will just go away once Trump is no longer on the ticket.

'The polling profession needs to reshape and reorganize their questionnaires,' Luntz told DailyMail.com. 'It's the only way they'll ever get it right.'
