I think the attack was for optics. Maybe took out a couple of weapons making facilities, not that important. Most important, Trump looked "tough" and the Israelis had to back down, even if they didn't get the results they wanted. Also, the US warmongers had to back down. The "pacifists" weren't happy, but Russia didn't get upset (why not?) and no human being was actually hurt. There are some suggestions that they were only kinetic strikes, no explosive warheads.
