Today in 1980 Microsoft signed a contract with IBM to develop the operating system for their new line of personal computers. This PC line launched home computing among the general public, and the Microsoft Disk Operating System was what they ran. Bill Gates and Paul Allen developed MS-DOS using existing software as a base, laying the groundwork for Windows and Microsoft’s PC domination.
