Apple and Google equipped phones both suck the horniest of horns.

1) if you can afford it, get the latest new phone coming out with physical switches on all the radios. That one is based on linux.
2) if money is a consideration, go figure out which custom NON GAPPS aosp rom you like, and buy a phone you like from the compatibility list, and immediately flash the phone with the rom, DO NOT LOAD GAPPS, NOT EVEN OPENGAPPS, kek.
3) iphones == throw out or recycle.
LineageOS seems to have a quite large compatibility list. So If you're looking for easiest path, visit them and see if your phone is supported.
If you can find here, you can flash a rom on a damn phone. Not hard, just takes studying the problem and following the steps.
the flipphones don't matter on the carrier level.
The problem with the tablet phones is the firmware.
