Alcohol Delivery Sales Spiked in Blue States on Election Night
Alcohol delivery sales spiked in blue states on election night as Americans anxiously awaited the results of the presidential race that has yet to be decided.
NPR cited data from alcohol delivery company Drizly that showed a 75.3% increase in deliveries to blue states from the previous four Tuesdays. Red states saw a 33% increase and swing states saw a 54.8% jump.
Drizly said 42% of its Election Day sales were wine, 41% were liquor, and 15% were beer.
News outlets called several states Tuesday night and in the early hours of Wednesday, but five states are still counting ballots and the election is not yet decided. Democrat Joe Biden has a strong lead, however, and needs just one more state to unseat President Donald Trump.
