Lieutenant General Scott D. Berrier, USA

 

LTG Scott D. Berrier arrives to DIA as the 22nd Director and came from the Department of the Army where he served as the 46th G-2. In that role, he was the principal military intelligence and counterintelligence adviser to the Secretary and Chief of Staff of the Army, and the Armyโ€™s Intelligence Community representative.

 

He is a career intelligence officer having served as the โ€œ2โ€ at every level from Battalion to Combatant Command. The depth of his leadership experience ranges from Company Commander to Commanding General and Senior Mission Commander. His Army, Joint Service, and Special Operations assignments include service throughout the United States, the Republic of Korea, Iraq, and Afghanistan.

 

LTG Berrier earned a Bachelor of Science Degree in History from University of Wisconsin โ€“ Stevens Point, a Master of Science Degree in General Studies from Central Michigan University, and a Master of Science Degree in Strategic Studies from the United States Army War College.

 

His awards and decorations include the Distinguished Service Medal (1OLC), Defense Superior Service Medal (2OLC), Legion of Merit (1OLC), and Bronze Star Medal (1OLC). LTG Berrier also earned the Parachutist Badge, Air Assault Badge, and Ranger Tab.

 

LTG Berrier and his wife, Annie, began their Army journey in 1987 at Fort Richardson, Alaska. They have two sons, Cole and Connor. Cole and his wife (Mika) currently serve in the office of Senator Brian Schatz. Lieutenant Connor Berrier is a Naval Intelligence Officer serving as the Flag Aide for the Navy N2/6.

Senate confirms Berrier as next DIA director

The U.S. Senate confirmed the nomination of Lt. Gen. Scott Berrier, U.S. Army, as the 22nd director of the Defense Intelligence Agency, July 30. Berrier comes with decades of intelligence experience having led intelligence staffs (J2) at many levels.

 

โ€œI have known Scott since we were in the Military Intelligence Captainโ€™s Career Course in 1989,โ€ said DIA Director Lt. Gen. Robert P. Ashley Jr. โ€œHaving served as a combatant command J2, J2 for all forces in Afghanistan, J2 for all forces in Korea, commander of the Army Intelligence School and Center, and most recently, as the Army senior intelligence officer, no one is more prepared to lead DIA.โ€

 

Berrier currently serves as the deputy chief of staff, U.S. Army Intelligence.

 

After serving more than 36 years on active duty, Ashley will retire following his tour at DIA.

 

โ€œI cannot imagine any better way to end my career than having been a part of the DIA family and serving the nation,โ€ Ashley said. โ€œLeading one of the most complex organization responsible for our nationโ€™s security has been an honor and a privilege. Each day I walked into the office, I knew I was surrounded by a team of professionals, whose singular focus was on our security and being sentinels for our values, our national interests, and protecting our families.โ€

 

DIAโ€™s mission is to provide intelligence on foreign militaries that delivers decision advantage to prevent and decisively win wars.
