Can we go back in 'trivial' technology about 20 years?

Back before social media, back before smartphones took off, back when people used to call each other, back when people had control over themselves?

I'd really like to see non-essential bullshit tech be a thing of the past, to open the door to tech that actually benefits the human race.

There's no need for teenagers to swing their ass around on camera.

It's ruining courtship and destroying things relevant to the propagation of our species.

It's ruining a lot of things, including turning the younger generation into animals.

2 day Amazon delivery is cool-

Grocery delivery is cool-

Wifi is cool-

Video chat is cool-

Satellite GPS is cool-

But do we have to have all this extra shit? No.

We don't need to have Instagram stories.

We don't need Facebook timelines.

We don't need GPS tracking and metadata collection.

We don't need to worry about if our phones are watching us 24/7 with our own cameras.

Just call your friends and hang out.

Otherwise they're not really friends.

Analog.

If you want to have friends in other parts of the world, fine. But there are ways to do this. Safe ways that have been around for a long time.

We don't need big tech is what I'm saying

About 6 months ago, I got rid of my smartphones and tablet.

Switched to a clamshell after a number change and a service provider change.

There were some spoopy things going on with my phones…

Took a lot of getting used to, but now I appreciate my time at home with my desktop a lot more.

Just like the old days.

I didn't NEED to have access to everything everywhere all the time, I just enjoyed it.

And so did the corporations mining my data.
