once lived in rental house and could hear squirrel storing nuts in the crawl space above the BR. one night he fell down between two wall studs, and couldn't get out. listened to him try for hours, 'til i finally got a hunk of clothesline and crawled into the crawl space with a flashlight. i could see him at the bottom, and i lowered the clothesline to him. he looked at it for a few seconds and then climbed up out of the wall. when he got to the top, he stopped and sat there staring at me for maybe a full 15 seconds, as if to say thanks, then scampered away. happily, i did not get bitten for my trouble.
