City reports 1,919 new coronavirus cases, deaths rise to 666
The city reported 1,919 new coronavirus cases and five deaths Sunday.
Health officials said 38,858 individuals have recovered. There are 26,290 active cases, a rise of 1,728 patients since Saturday.
There have been 63,161 positive cases. Data show 1,056 people are hospitalized, including 303 in intensive care and 168 on ventilators; 49% of hospitalizations in El Paso County are COVID-19 related.
Latest on El Paso shutdown:
A Texas district court judge ruled on Friday that County Judge Ricardo Samaniego's week-old COVID-19-tied El Paso shutdown order of nonessential businesses can remain in place.
A group of 10 El Paso restaurant operators filed a lawsuit to temporarily stop Samaniego's order and ultimately have it declared illegal. The Texas Attorney General's Office joined the lawsuit and also filed its own injunction request.

Philadelphia's Republican City Commissioner said his office is receiving death threats for counting votes
The Republican City Commissioner of Philadelphia said his office is receiving death threats for counting votes during a "60 Minutes" interview on Sunday.
"From the inside looking out, it feels all very deranged," Al Schmidt said in an interview with Bill Whitaker in reference to unsubstantiated claims of voter fraud in the city.
"At the end of the day, we are counting eligible votes cast by voters," Schmidt, whose office oversees vote counting, said. "It's people making accusations that we wouldn't count those votes or people are adding fraudulent votes or just, coming up with, just, all sorts of crazy stuff."
"Or calls to our offices reminding us that 'This is what the Second Amendment is for, people like us.'"

Trump to push unproven voter fraud claims at upcoming rallies: Axios
President Donald Trump plans to promote unsubstantiated claims of voter fraud at upcoming rallies, White House sources told Axios on Sunday.
The president and his allies have continued to make unsubstantiated claims of mass voter fraud, after major news networks called the election for President-elect Joe Biden on Saturday.
Axios reporter Alayna Treene said four of the president's advisors told her of the plan to share purported obituaries of people who voted.
Unsubstantiated reports of dead people voting began to spread rapidly online following the election and were promoted by Trump and other prominent Republicans.

Argument over dog leads to shooting in Nashville; 8 wounded
NASHVILLE, Tenn. — An argument that started over a dog led to a shooting that left eight people wounded in Tennessee. Nashville police said they were looking for two male suspects.
Authorities responded to reports of gunfire shortly after 1 a.m. Sunday, the Metropolitan Nashville Police Department said in a news release. None of the injuries were life-threatening.
The statement said the two suspects began arguing and one of them had a dog with him. The suspect with the dog pulled out a handgun, police said. The second suspect left, then returned a short time later with a gun and accompanied by several other men. An exchange of gunfire ensued.
Police said they recovered a handgun from the scene and that the investigation is ongoing.

Gov. Gretchen Whitmer: ‘I have no intention on leaving’ if offered Biden Cabinet role
Whitmer wants to work with Biden from Michigan, rather than Washington, she told WDIV on Sunday morning, Nov. 8.
“I have been very clear all along that I have no intention on leaving,” she said. “I love being the Governor of Michigan. I feel grateful to be here, and I have a lot of work to do. I think I can be a great partner to a Biden-Harris administration from right here at home, and I know they’re going to be a great partner to Michigan.”
Whitmer resisted consideration to be Biden’s running mate all summer, according to an August report from the Associated Press. After an appeal from Biden in June, she remained a top candidate for the role.

However, she pushed for Biden to consider choosing a Black woman for the role, instead. Biden eventually picked Kamala Harris, now vice president-elect, whom Whitmer praised for her Saturday night victory speech.
I want to take a minute to acknowledge the incredible visual last night, watching Kamala Harris give that speech,” she said. “It was a beautiful speech, and thinking about my daughters seeing this phenomenal woman in this role… I mean, it was just so moving.”
Instead of running alongside Biden, Whitmer was a co-chair on his campaign, with the goal of flipping Michigan back to Democrats after losing it to President Donald Trump in 2016.
Trump won Michigan by 10,714 votes four years ago. Biden won Michigan by 146,123 votes, according to unofficial election results.
The effort to contain COVID-19 is one of the reasons Whitmer wants to remain in Michigan, she told WDIV. The state hit a new one-day record for additional cases on Saturday with 6,225.The state also reported 65 new deaths, a total that includes 45 from a daily records check of previous death certificates.
