Jonathan Turley: ‘No Reason Not To’ Investigate Claims of Voter Fraud

Constitutional law professor and impeachment inquiry witness Jonathan Turley said that there is ample reason to investigate allegations of voter fraud foisted by President Donald Trump’s legal team and campaign. “You know, it was an odd thing to have so many people coming out and saying, ‘look, there is no case to be made here,’” Turley said on Fox News. “We’re still in the tabulation stage. You know, the information that would reflect a systemic problem or large numbers of balloting errors would come at the next stage, at the canvassing stage. Most of this information is held by election officials. And it often takes a court order to get that information to the opposing party.” Turley noted that Democratic nominee Joe Biden’s odds of winning the presidency are “dramatically higher” than Trump’s. A number of media outlets declared Biden the winner over the last weekend. The Epoch Times will not declare a winner of the 2020 presidential election until all results are certified and any legal challenges are resolved.

Turley, who is a professor at George Washington University Law School with decades of experience, said that there have been electoral issues in previous presidential elections. “In 1960,” he said, “the outcome of that election is still believed to have been fraudulent. You know, in Illinois, in Texas, there were a lot of fraudulent votes that put Kennedy over the top against Richard Nixon.” “In 2000, people still believe we didn’t take enough time in Florida and that Al Gore may have won Florida and won the presidency,” Turley continued. “So, there is no reason not to look at the allegations, to give 71 million people who voted for Trump that sense of assurance that nothing untoward occurred and that their votes really did count. Now, can they really overcome these margins? Probably not, but we don’t know what we’re talking about here.”

State electors and later the Electoral College are the official bodies that certify elections. Inauguration Day is Jan. 20, 2021. Biden declared victory on Saturday, saying, “I pledge to be a president who seeks not to divide but to unify, who doesn’t see red states or blue states but the United States.” His campaign also appears to be in the process of creating a transition team before Jan. 20. Trump’s legal team has said that the president will be declared the winner of the election, saying that they are prepared to take their fight to the Supreme Court. Turley, meanwhile, rose to prominence among conservative circles late last year during the House impeachment inquiry, testifying under oath that he was not in favor of Trump’s impeachment.

Man Shot and Wounded by Anaheim Police Investigating Human Trafficking Case

A man in his 30s was shot by Anaheim police on Nov. 9 as they were investigating a scheme to ransom undocumented immigrants from Mexico, police said. The suspects helped smuggle in undocumented immigrants and then held them for ransom at an apartment building on Syracuse Street north of Lincoln Avenue, Carringer said. The man, whose name was not immediately released, was taken to an area hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, Carringer said. Some of the people rounded up are victims and some are suspects pretending to be victims, he said. Several suspects have been taken into custody, Carringer said, including the alleged ringleader, who was not immediately identified. Not all of the undocumented immigrants came from Mexico at the same time, he said.

Top USAID Official Tells Agency Leadership: ‘There Is No Transition In Place’

The acting deputy administrator of the U.S. Agency for International Development, John Barsa, told colleagues on Monday that there will be "no transition" until the General Services Administration certifies the election results. "You should be aware, the only official announcement about an election result that matters is from the head of GSA, so until the head of GSA makes a determination as to who won an election, nothing changes. There is no transition in place," Barsa told his colleagues, according to a recording of the call obtained by the Washington Free Beacon. The General Services Administration is tasked with determining when an election winner has been "ascertained" and enabling a transition effort thereafter. The White House intervened on Friday to save Barsa's job and keep him atop the agency. Because he had been serving as acting administrator, Barsa was slated to step down: Under the Federal Vacancies Reform Act, acting officials must step aside after 210 days. So the director of presidential personnel, John McEntee, fired deputy administrator Bonnie Glick, who was slated to take over the agency. Barsa is now serving as acting deputy administrator. A spokeswoman for the agency did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

On the same call, White House liaison Catharine O'Neill reiterated the White House's view that "the election is still happening." "The Electoral College has not voted yet, so we are still here, business as usual, working for the president, and making sure that everything that we’re doing is to serve the president of the United States," she said. McEntee is also warning political officials that anybody caught looking for a new job will be fired, according to CNN's Jake Tapper. McEntee himself, who previously served as body man to President Donald Trump, was escorted out of the White House in 2018 over an unspecified "security issue" and brought back earlier this year. Barsa had a more muted warning for his colleagues: "D.C. is a really small town, sooner or later everyone gets outed for who they are," he told colleagues. "So until you are no longer in your role, please continue to carry out your duties with the same pride and enthusiasm you have always had for your jobs, don’t let anything distract you from the mission you have before you and the task the president has trusted you to execute. It’s a small town. Comport yourself in a manner that you’ll be proud of years from now."
