I-43 in Ozaukee Co. reopens following manhunt for armed suspects
BELGIUM — All lanes on southbound I-43 near Belgium in Ozaukee County have reopened after a heavy police presence closed the lanes Monday night.
It appears law enforcement from several departments were seeking armed suspects in that area. Around 7 p.m., officers set up a perimeter for at least a mile, using ambulances, fire trucks and snow service vehicles to block roads. Canines and drones were also used in the search.
Around 9 p.m. the interstate was reopened. The closures previously led to major traffic jams along the roadway, with drivers asked to take a detour.
Some residents in Ozaukee County reportedly received an emergency alert on their phones, encouraging them to shelter in place as a large police presence searches for "fleeing subjects."
