President Donald Trump’s recent address at the Israeli-American Council’s National Summit in Hollywood, drew mixed reaction from Jewish leaders in South Florida and nationally.
Among the president’s remarks from his speech that has drawn quite the reaction from Jewish leaders was, “A lot of you are in the real estate business, because I know you very well. You’re brutal killers, not nice people at all, but you have to vote for me, you have no choice.”
“When a president of the United States spews anti-Semitic tropes, as Trump did recently at the Israeli-American Council, calling some of the Jews in his audience ‘brutal killers, not nice people at all,’ insinuating that all they care about is money, and calling Jews disloyal if they do not support Trump, i.e. the majority of Jews in America who have a conscience, this is dangerous,” said Rabbi Barry Silver of Congregation L’Dor Va-Dor in Boynton Beach, who also noted his views do not necessarily reflect those of his congregation.
Silver also said, "It is now up to every self-respecting Jew to reject Trump’s efforts to define us in his vile image and to loudly and clearly proclaim that Trump does not speak for the Jewish people, and in fact, represents the antithesis of all that we hold dear."
