To be fair we have to consider how "criminals" were "buried" in that era and in the Roman/Jewish mind he was indeed just that. We have to take what the Bible says with a grain of salt and consider things logically. If we do then, unfortunately, the Romans fed the remains of crucified "criminals" to dogs and never buried them. That is absolutely historically accurate.

 

Did it happen here? Who knows but I just cannot see a small group of people finding, overmatching the Roman soldiers in the area, taking the body, and then burying it without any push back.
