A very religious old man lived near the ocean and frequently had to brave terrible storms, but always trusted in the Lord to guide him and keep him safe. One year, the storms were very bad but he stayed as usual. Soon the flood waters rose to his front door, and one of his neighbors came by in a canoe offering to take him to safety, The old man declined and said 'The Lord always provides'. The floodwaters went higher, forcing the old man to the upstairs of his house to stay dry. A neighbor drove by in his big fishing boat, and offered to drive the old man to safety, but he said no, 'The Lord will protect me'. The waters rose even higher, forcing the old man out to his roof, where he was spotted by a helicopter, who he waved off, thinking the Lord will save me. The water rushed higher and swept the old man off the roof where he met his watery end.
At the pearly gates, the old man was angry with Peter. Why did the Lord not save me, was I not good, did I not follow his word? Peter said, What did you want, we sent you 2 boats and a helicopter?
