Photosynthesis

the process by which green plants and some other organisms use sunlight to synthesize foods from carbon dioxide and water.

Photosynthesis in plants generally involves the green pigment chlorophyll and generates oxygen as a byproduct.

This chemical energy is stored in carbohydrate molecules, such as sugars, which are synthesized from carbon dioxide and water โ€“ hence the name photosynthesis, from the Greek phลs (ฯ†แฟถฯ‚), "light", and sunthesis (ฯƒฯฮฝฮธฮตฯƒฮนฯ‚), "putting together".
