Trump’s anti-ISIS envoy admits he MISLED president about US troop numbers in Syria to keep them there

When President Donald Trump ordered all but a few hundred US troops withdrawn from Syria, his own diplomats hid the true number of American forces from the president, envoy Jim Jeffrey has revealed in a new interview.

“We were always playing shell games to not make clear to our leadership how many troops we had there,” Jeffrey, envoy to the global coalition against Islamic State (IS, formerly ISIS) told Defense One on Thursday. Jeffrey added that the actual number of troops in northeastern Syria is “a lot more” than the 200-400 that Trump agreed to leave behind last year.

Trump’s withdrawal appeared to make good on his campaign-trail promise to extricate the US from its “forever wars” in the Middle East. Trump, who referred to Syria in 2018 as “sand and death,” angered a host of Pentagon chiefs and diplomats when he announced the near-total pullout from the country last October. Defense Secretary Jim Mattis resigned in protest when Trump first announced withdrawal plans in 2018, and Jeffrey said on Thursday that the decision was “the most controversial thing in my fifty years in government.”

Jeffrey’s predecessor, Brett McGurk, also handed in his notice when Trump revealed the pullout. Taking over from McGurk, Jeffrey and his team routinely misled the president to ensure that “there was never a Syria withdrawal.”

Even before he signed up to work for the Trump administration, Jeffrey’s opposition to the president was well known. Shortly after Trump was named as the Republican candidate in 2016, Jeffrey signed a letter declaring that the businessman and TV host “would be the most reckless president in American history.” The letter’s other signatories included a host of Bush administration security officials, who helped shape the policies that destabilized the Middle East and gave rise to Islamic State.

Trump Law Firm Quits Pennsylvania Case After Project Lincoln 'Cancel' Campaign

A law firm representing the Trump campaign's efforts to challenge the Pennsylvania election results gave notice late Thursday that they are withdrawing from one of the cases.

While no reason was given for the decision by Porter Wright Morris & Arthur LLP, Bloomberg notes that it was one of two law firms targeted by the Lincoln Project - a group of 'never-Trump' Republicans devoted to removing Trump from office.

On Tuesday, the group encouraged people to join LinkedIn and target individual employees of Porter Wright and another law firm, Jones Day, and "Ask them how they can work for an organization trying to overturn the will of the American people."

A Trump campaign spokesman blamed "cancel culture" for the firm's exit.

"Leftist mobs descended upon some of the lawyers representing the President’s campaign and they buckled," said campaign communications director, Tim Murtaugh. "If the target were anyone but Donald Trump, the media would be screaming about injustice and the fundamental right to legal representation. The President’s team is undeterred and will move forward with rock-solid attorneys to ensure free and fair elections for all Americans."

Another attorney who is not affiliated with Porter Wright will remain on the case in Williamsport, Pennsylvania. A hearing on the state's motion to dismiss the suit in federal court is scheduled for Tuesday.

The suit claims the state’s election results are suspect because the campaign wasn’t given adequate access to observe the vote-counting in Democratic-leaning counties. A hearing in that case has been scheduled for Nov. 17.

Porter Wright has also been representing the campaign in a case heading to the Pennsylvania Supreme Court similarly challenging vote tallies based on poll observers’ access to the counting process. It additionally filed several county-level challenges seeking to disqualify ballots it claimed were defective. It’s unclear if Porter Wright also intends to withdraw from those representations. -Bloomberg

EU warns Google CEO Sundar Pichai it won’t allow the web to remain the ‘Wild West’ any longer

The internet should benefit not only US tech giants, but also smaller European businesses, and new rules being introduced by the European Union will ensure that, a top EU official has told Alphabet and Google CEO Sundar Pichai.

The EU’s Internal Market Commissioner Thierry Breton and Pichai held a video conference late on Thursday after the leak of an internal document from Google, which detailed a 60-day strategy to oppose the bloc’s fresh internet regulations together with other US companies.

“The Internet cannot remain a ‘Wild West’: we need clear and transparent rules, a predictable environment and balanced rights and obligations,” Breton told the Alphabet CEO, according to a statement seen by Reuters.

Everything that is allowed offline should be authorized online; and everything that is forbidden offline should be banned online.

The new rules would increase the EU’s abilities to counter unfair behavior by so-called ‘gatekeepers’ or online companies with vast market power, like Google and other tech giants, mostly from the US. They’ll be forced to share data with rivals and regulators, as well as act more scrupulously in promoting their services and products.

The Digital Services Act and the Digital Markets Act, due to be announced on December 2, aim to ensure that the internet won’t benefit just a handful of companies, but also medium and small European businesses, Breton pointed out.

“Europe’s position is clear: everyone is welcome on our continent – as long as they respect our rules,” he said.

Sources familiar with the call told Reuters that Breton showed the leaked paper to Pichai, urging him against using “old century tactics” and trying to pit various units in the European Commission against each other.

The Alphabet CEO reportedly apologized for the document, but insisted that he had not seen it or signed off on it. According to another source, Pichai told Breton that he would engage directly with the commissioner if he sees language and policy in the rules that specifically target Google, which is an Alphabet subsidiary.

‘Second Soviet Union’ – Hungary’s Orban rips into EU’s plans to make access to Brussels funds conditional

Hungary’s prime minister has labeled the EU’s plan to make access to funding conditional on the maintenance of the rule of law as “blackmail.” He then likened Brussels to the Soviet Union.

Viktor Orban, the Hungarian PM, told state radio on Friday that his country cannot accept EU plans to link access to European funds with the rule of law criteria.

On November 5, European leaders agreed that the next seven-year budget cycle would be conditional on the rule of law. Meaning that if the budget as a whole is accepted by a member state, the EU will be able to cut funding to governments that don’t respect the rule of law.

The PM said that he spoke to German Chancellor Angela Merkel on Thursday and reaffirmed his objections to the plan.

He told Merkel that if this regulation, tabled by the European Parliament and the German presidency, is passed, “then we have made Soviet Union out of the EU.”

This is not what we wanted … we did not create the EU for having a second Soviet Union.

Orban supplemented his remarks by saying it was customary for the Soviet Union to subjectively impose conditions to punish republics and communist governments.

In the old days, in the communist world, all this was called anti-Soviet activity, and now they want to punish Member States by referring to it as anti-European activity.

Stopping short of threatening to veto the budget, Orban said draft proposals were “without objective criteria … they want to blackmail countries on an ideological basis.”

Hungary is supported by Poland’s PM Mateusz Morawiecki in its opposition to the EU’s draft regulation.

On Thursday, Morawiecki said that he had written to EU leaders to tell them that Poland could not accept the proposals.

“Discretionary mechanisms, based on arbitrary, politically motivated criteria, cannot be accepted because they do not take into account the essential, substantive aspects of European law,” he wrote on Facebook.

Cop’s Home Raided, Police Make ‘Historical’ Cocaine Bust Worth a Quarter BILLION Dollars

In what is being touted as the largest seizure in history, authorities have raided the home of a Virgin Island police officer and discovered $250 million worth of cocaine. The raid resulted in the seizure of 2.3 tons of the white powdery substance.

Illustrating the sheer size of the bust, the amount of cocaine is equivalent in US dollars, to 75 percent of the entire department’s annual budget. According to police, the raid was carried out in the early morning hours on Friday, November 6. When police arrived, several people escaped but the home owner, Darren Davis, 41, who has been a Virgin Island cop for over 20 years, was arrested on the spot.

Davis’ brother, Liston Davis, 40, was also arrested. They have both been charged with three counts of possession of a controlled substance with intent to supply and keeping an unlicensed firearm, Police Commissioner Michael Matthews said.

In a likely attempt to avoid embarrassing the police department, during the press conference this week, the commissioner and the governor, Gus Jaspert, failed to mention that the home belonged to a cop where the massive amount of cocaine was found. However, that information was leaked to The Sun tabloid and they reported it to the public.

“The value of the seizure equates to around 75 percent of our entire national budget in the BVI. It is also one of the largest seizures in the history of any British Overseas Territory or the UK,” said Gov. Jaspert. “I share these figures as an illustration of just how large this seizure is. The Police conducted exceptional and high risk work to enable such a significant seizure. Its size indicates that drug smuggling can potentially have debilitating and deteriorating effects on our territory, and the level of safety and good governance we expect and deserve.”

Police would not tell the public how they found out about the massive cocaine shipment nor would they say exactly how many people were able to escape during the raid. However, the governor said that a cocaine bust of this magnitude indicates that there is likely a lot of drug trafficking going on in the area.

“A seizure of this scale, especially combined with other seizures made in recent months, [indicates] serious and organised criminality here in the British Virgin Islands,” Jaspert said, adding, “There may be pockets of corruption facilitating this kind of criminal activity.”

CNN's Christiane Amanpour blasted for comparing Trump's term to Nazis' Kristallnacht: 'Disgusting'

CNN International anchor Christiane Amanpour compared President Donald Trump's four years in office to the Nazis' Kristallnacht. After Amanpour made the comparison of President Trump's first term to the campaign of terror against Jewish people in 1938, the CNN International segment from Thursday was characterized as "despicable" and "disgusting."

"This week 82 years ago, Kristallnacht happened," Amanpour said on her interview TV show. "It was the Nazis' warning shot across the bow of our human civilization that led to genocide against a whole identity and, in that tower of burning books, it led to an attack on fact, knowledge, history and truth.

"After four years of a modern-day assault on those same values by Donald Trump, the Biden-Harris team pledges a return to normal," she said as images of wrecked storefronts and a book burning were displayed on her show "Amanpour." "And every day Joe Biden makes presidential announcements about good governance and the health and security of the American people, while the great, brooding figure of his defeated opponent rages, conducting purges of perceived enemies and preventing a transition."

Kristallnacht, the "Night of Broken Glass," was the two-day onslaught on Jews in Germany that began on the night of Nov. 9, 1938. "Over 250 synagogues were burned, over 7,000 Jewish businesses were trashed and looted, dozens of Jewish people were killed, and Jewish cemeteries, hospitals, schools, and homes were looted while police and fire brigades stood by," according to the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum.

"The morning after the pogroms 30,000 German Jewish men were arrested for the 'crime' of being Jewish and sent to concentration camps, where hundreds of them perished. Some Jewish women were also arrested and sent to local jails. Businesses owned by Jews were not allowed to reopen unless they were managed by non-Jews. Curfews were placed on Jews, limiting the hours of the day they could leave their homes."

Alito: COVID Has Highlighted ‘Disturbing’ Trend of ‘Lawmaking by Executive Fiat’ and ‘Rule by Experts’

During a speech before the Federalist Society on Thursday, Supreme Court Justice Samuel Alito said that the coronavirus pandemic has “highlighted disturbing trends” in the law such as “dominance of lawmaking by executive fiat, rather than legislation.” Which he characterized as “the movement toward rule by experts.”

Alito began by cautioning that, aside from specific references to any Supreme Court cases, he isn’t commenting on the legality of coronavirus restrictions and isn’t making any statements as to whether the restrictions constitute good policy.

He stated that coronavirus has “highlighted disturbing trends that were already present before the virus struck.”

Alito continued, “One of these is the dominance of lawmaking by executive fiat, rather than legislation. The vision of early-20th century progressives and the New Dealers of the 1930s was that policymaking would shift from narrowminded elected legislators to an elite group of appointed experts. In a word, that policymaking would become more scientific. That dream has been realized to a large extent. Every year, administrative agencies, acting under broad delegations of authority, churn out huge volumes of regulations that dwarf the statutes enacted by the people’s elected representatives. And what have we seen in the pandemic? Sweeping restrictions imposed, for the most part, under statutes that confer enormous executive discretion.”

He concluded that coronavirus restrictions have “highlighted the movement toward rule by experts.”

Twitter Has Labeled 34% of Trump’s Tweets Since Election Day

A recent report from the New York Times analyzes Twitter’s moderation of the platform during the 2020 Presidential election, noting that 34 percent of tweets from President Donald Trump were marked as “disputed” by the platform since election day in an effort to lessen their viral spread across the platform.

In a recent article, the New York Times analyzes some of Twitter’s recent claims about the moderation of its platform during the 2020 Presidential election. Twitter alleges that it labeled around 300,000 election-related tweets as “disputed” as part of its moderating practices. This accounts for around 0.2 percent of all discussion on the subject.

Disclosing these figures makes Twitter the first major social media platform to publicly evaluate its performance around the 2020 election. Twitter, Facebook, and Google all previously faced criticism for their handling of the 2016 presidential election, now it appears that the companies are doing more to publicly appease critics.

From October 27 to Wednesday of this week, Twitter has labeled 300,000 tweets as “disputed,” warning readers that tweets could be misleading or false. Twitter restricted 456 of these messages preventing them from being shared or receiving likes or replies, an extreme measure applied to many of President Trump’s tweets.

Between election day and Friday of this week, Twitter labeled around 34 percent of President Trump’s tweets and retweets as “disputed.” Breitbart News has reported extensively on this, noting recently that 25 of President Trump’s posts across Twitter and Facebook were labeled or disputed within 24 hours.

Twitter’s head of legal and policy, Vijaya Gadde, wrote in a blog post: “These enforcement actions remain part of our continued strategy to add context and limit the spread of misleading information about election processes around the world on Twitter.”

Evelyn Douek, a lecturer at Harvard Law School who focuses on online speech, commented on Twitter’s results to the New York Times stating: “Nothing about the design of these platforms is natural, inevitable or immutable. Everything is up for grabs. This was the first really big experiment in content moderation outside of the ‘take down or leave up’ paradigm of content moderation,” she added. “I think that’s the future of content moderation. These early results are promising for that kind of avenue. They don’t need to completely censor things in order to stop the spread and add context.”

Dr. Anthony Fauci: Americans Must ‘Do What You’re Told’ Despite ‘Independent Spirit’

Dr. Anthony Fauci expressed concerns Thursday about an independent society trying to fight the coronavirus, arguing Americans should just listen to public health officials.

Fauci spoke in a forum about working with officials in the United Kingdom who faced a similar problem.

“[E]ach of our countries have that independent spirit, where we don’t want to be told what to do,” he said. “Well, I understand that, but now is the time to do what you’re told.”

Fauci spoke at the National Cathedral’s 2020 Ignatius Forum about facing a “second wave” of the virus in the Fall and the Winter.

“We’re not done, we still need to implement public health measures in a very intense way,” he said.

Fauci said he loved the federalist nature of the United States, but indicated it was problematic states had different approaches to fighting the virus.

“We had too much individual approaches towards how we were going to handle the outbreak, so our baseline never came down to the low level where we wanted it to be,” he said.

Fauci said there would continue to be a “core of people” who would never take a vaccine, but that it was important to combat misinformation to the larger public about the importance of vaccines.

He said it would be “problematic” if up to 50 percent of Americans refused to take the coronavirus vaccine which would allow the virus to spread. Fauci continued:

I think there has been an anti-authority component to this, we had ‘anti-vax’ people don’t like to be told to be vaccinated. Scientists are often perceived as authoritarian and sometimes in fact they’ve made that perception themselves by the way they act. I think we can improve on that.

Fauci said the United States did not do well in handling the first wave of the virus but said he did not think that more lockdowns were necessary.

“I do not believe at this point that we do need to lock down,” Fauci said, but addedt they had to remain “on the table” as a possibility for the future.

He strongly condemned a “herd immunity” strategy to deal with the virus, pointing out that of the roughly ten percent of the people in the United States who got the virus, there were 245,000 deaths and ten million infections.

Herd immunity, he said, would require a 70 percent infection rate, thus multiplying the deaths by seven-fold to an estimated 1,715,000 deaths.

“It’s not feasible and it’s not acceptable,” he said.

Fauci urged Americans to weigh seriously the consequences of a Thanksgiving gathering during the pandemic, especially among elderly and at-risk people.

Deutsche Bank Wants ‘Privilege Tax’ Imposed on People Who Work from Home

German banking giant Deutsche Bank is calling for a “privilege tax” to be imposed on people who work from home, to erase their savings from not having to commute or pay for food on their lunch breaks.

Writing in a paper for the bank titled What Must We Do to Rebuild? analyst Luke Templeman lamented the fact that “remote workers are contributing less to the infrastructure of the economy whilst still receiving its benefits.”

“That is a big problem for the economy,” he complained — as if spending much of one’s pay on commuting, dry-cleaning work clothes, and so on to boost the GDP is something of a civic duty — and proposed a 5 per cent “privilege tax” to recoup the economy’s imagined “loss”.

“Working from home will be part of the ‘new normal’ well after the pandemic has passed,” explained Jim Reid, Global Head of Fundamental Credit Strategy and Thematic Research at the German banking corporation.

“Our calculations suggest the amounts raised [from taxing home workers] could fund material income subsidies for low-income earners who are unable to work remotely and thus assume more ‘old economy’ and health risks,” he suggested.

Their estimated tax take from the scheme in Britain stands is £7 billion, with the potential to grab €20 billion (£17.8 billion) in Germany and $49 billion (£37 billion) in America.

This culminated in Vote Leave alumnus and Cummings ally Lee Cain being tipped to be promoted from Director of Communications to Chief of Staff — but ultimately ending up leaving the prime ministerial team entirely after Symonds reportedly “vetoed” his elevation.

Post-Cummings, it is believed that Johnson intends to “build liberal, global Britain” and take a “softer and less dogmatic” stance on the British Union — rhetoric which has raised fears he will give the nod to a second divisive referendum on Scotland leaving the United Kingdom — according to sources who spoke to The Times.

The newspaper reports that Johnson is “expected to push hard on his green agenda” and “step back from so-called culture wars with institutions such as the BBC”, which Cummings was keen to stand up to.

Cummings appeared to tacitly confirm his coming departure in comments to BBC political reporter Laura Kuenssberg, telling her that “rumours of me threatening to resign are invented, rumours of me asking others to resign are invented” — a likely reference to reports that other Vote Leave veterans will walk out of No 10 with him — but that “my position [on leaving] hasn’t changed since my January blog”.

Based on Reports By Auditors, IT Specialists, Data Analysts, and Statisticians – The Number of Illegitimate Votes Identified In Four Swing States Are Enough to Overturn Election

In a little over a week, groups of volunteer IT specialists, Data Analysts, Auditors and more, have uncovered enough potential fraud to overturn the 2020 Election.

Over the past week, groups of professionals have gathered to ensure election integrity was present in the 2020 election. These groups of Trump and America loving patriots are working on their own time and digging into election data to identify potential evidence of fraud. Despite the MSM promoting a group of ‘experts’ claiming this was ‘the most secure election ever‘, the real evidence indicates a total different story.

In just a week we have uncovered enough potentially fraudulent activities and votes to overturn the 2020 election.

We’ve reported on numerous incidents of fraudulent activities across the country in this election. From false claims of a water main break in Atlanta, to control deficiencies in the electronic voting machines used across the country, the lost flash drive in Milwaukee, to turning off the signature fraud confirmation software tools in Nevada, this election was a mess.

There are numerous legal questions as well, such has how to address the numerous illegal and corrupt activities the Democrats carried out in Michigan to steal the election.

Shockingly, Pennsylvania may have been worse. (See the Trump team complaint in Pennsylvania for proof.)

There are enough legal issues identified to date to indicate this was the most corrupt election in US history.

So what is the impact?

Today we can say that there is enough information presently available on the potential fraudulent activities that when quantified would overturn the election.

The biggest potential fraud identified to date is related to the data coming from the voting machines themselves.

After we had identified a number of anomalies where votes appeared to be ‘switched’ from President Trump to Joe Biden, a group of experts dug into election data and found this was not an innocent mistake. By using election day data, this group found millions of votes removed from President Trump and placed in the Biden column. (This data is now being reviewed but our initial results are consistent with the group’s reporting.)

There are other items already identified and quantified by others. One report isolated Biden only votes from the election which were so large and outside of expectations that they clearly are not reasonable and should at least be reviewed for signatures:

Pelosi Gets Visibly Irritated When Asked if She Takes Any Responsibility for the Loss of House Seats

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) was visibly irritated Friday morning when a reporter asked her if she takes any responsibility for the loss of House seats.

The Democrats got shellacked in the House because Americans rejected their Marxism and calls for abolishing the police.

Furthermore, Joe Biden was such a lousy candidate that he didn’t carry the down ballot.

Rand Paul: 11 Million Americans Are ‘Immune’ After Recovering From COVID, ‘Scientific Illiterates’ Are Denying It

Sen. Rand Paul (R-KY) slammed critics as “scientific illiterates” after he drew heat for saying Americans who have recovered from COVID-19 should “throw away their masks” and “celebrate.”

Paul appeared Thursday on Fox News and said that 11 million Americans who have recovered from COVID-19 are immune from the disease and should no longer abide by heavy-handed government restrictions designed to limit the spread of the coronavirus. Paul said that those Americans that have recovered from the virus are now “immune” and cannot pass on the disease.

“We have 11 million people in our country who have already had COVID. We should tell them to celebrate,” said Paul, a graduate of the Duke University School of Medicine and a licensed ophthalmologist. “We should tell them to throw away their masks, go to restaurants, live again because these people are now immune.”

Paul also took a shot at Dr. Anthony Fauci, the director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases. Paul has criticized Fauci, who had significant influence over the U.S. response to the pandemic early on, over his continued support for pandemic restrictions on people and businesses.

“Dr. Fauci doesn’t want to admit to any of that. Dr. Fauci is like, ‘Oh, woe is me,’ until the election occurs and now, maybe he’ll be changing his attitude,” Paul said.

Paul’s comments were dismissed as “irresponsible” and “unscientific,” and he was accused of contributing to the spread of the virus. Paul responded to critics in a Friday morning tweet slamming the “scientific illiterates” that are attacking his comments, noting that any potential COVID vaccine would work in much the same way as “natural immunity.”

“To all the scientific illiterates denying immunity after COVID infection, realize you are denying the science of natural immunity which is the foundation of vaccine science. (PS even Fauci admits to immunity after COVID),” Paul said.

Gambling sites refuse to call election for Biden, leaving $600 million in limbo

President Trump is not the only one who adamantly refuses to credit Joe Biden with winning the 2020 presidential election.

Honchos at online gambling sites around the world, which take wagers on election outcomes, are also refusing to call Biden president-elect, despite the final tallies in his favor in what’s been called a historically secure election. Now, millions of dollars in gamblers’ wins and losses hang in the balance.

At one site alone, London-based Betfair, nearly $600 million in presidential wagers are hanging tight.

Bookmakers typically have no qualms about coughing up big bucks when Super Bowls go sideways or boxing matches go to hell. In 1990, Buster Douglas shocked the world by knocking out mighty Mike Tyson, defying odds as high as 42-1 and leading one gambler to win $57,000 on a $1,500 wager (before the disparity even peaked). But this time, online gambling sites (which offer a mode of betting that is illegal in the US) are keeping hands in pockets during this month’s commander-in-chief stalemate.

“We still have not graded a winner,” Adam Burns, sportsbook manager of BetOnline, told The Post.

Burns said he’s reserving a decision until Trump exhausts his legal options.

“People who bet Trump say it is not over. People who bet Biden say it is. This makes for a tricky situation where we have to be sure. It’s not like a football game” in terms of there being a clear-cut victor, Burns said.

It’s also not like a football game in terms of money that has been wagered. Burns said his site brought in a seven-figure total for this election. Others brought in similar totals.

“The presidential election was bigger than the Super Bowl, which is normally our biggest event of the year,” said Burns. “We kept taking action, with fluctuating odds for a few days after the election. But now the bet is [no longer available] and we’re hoping for an official decision.”

According to Bloomberg Wealth, gambling sites have learned their lessons from past missteps. In 2016, the Irish gambling platform PaddyPower paid out more than $1 million on Hillary Clinton as the winner — prior to Election Day.

But, even as presidential bettors cool their heels, they are not completely out in the cold. The gambling site 888 is offering action on whether Trump will last the full term in office (betting “no” will get you 6-1 odds) and Biden winning in 2024 is 12-1 at BetOnline, with thinner odds planned for wagers on Kamala Harris taking over the presidency in 2022.

“We’ll probably put it at 7-1 or something like that,” said Burns. “The age thing plays into it,” he said, referring to Biden, 77, and Harris, 56.

For now, though, he is most keenly focused on a definitive outcome of the presidential election. Personal politics aside, Burns admits to pulling for Biden as a professional play.

“If Biden comes in, it’s a big win for us,” he said, explaining that the site’s customers favored Trump. “If Trump is declared the winner, we will take a bath. It will not be a happy day here.”

Joe Biden’s Transition Aide Helped Steer $3M to Hunter Biden-Linked Firm

A top aide to former Vice President Joe Biden’s transition team once helped steer $3 million in taxpayer dollars to a Hunter Biden-linked venture capital firm.

Last week, Bloomberg reported that Don Graves, a high-ranking executive at Key Bank, has been tasked to advise Biden on financial regulation issues during the transition process. Graves, who worked for the former vice president during the Obama administration, has been a long time fixture in the Biden family orbit.

As Peter Schweizer, a senior contributor at Breitbart News and the president of the Government Accountability Institute, revealed in Profiles in Corruption, that relationship benefited Hunter Biden’s business interests on at least one occasion.

In December 2013, Hunter Biden, along with his long-time business associate Devon Archer, invested in a Hawaii-focused venture capital fund called mbloom. The investment, which was meant to provide seed capital for technology startups, was the result of a public-private partnership between Biden’s firm, Rosemont Seneca Technology (RST) Partners, and the state of Hawaii.

As part of the agreement, RST would provide five million for the fund, with the Hawaii Strategic Development Corporation (HSDC) matching the same amount.

Little-known at the time, however, was that more than half of HSDC’s contribution, nearly $3 million, came from the Treasury Department’s State Small Business Credit Initiative. The program, which expenses more than $1.5 billion to state economic development agencies, fell under the purview of then-Deputy Assistant Secretary of the Treasury Don Graves.

Complicating matters is that while Graves was overseeing the Small Business Credit Initiative, he was also informally advising Biden on economic and domestic policy as the executive director of the president’s Council on Jobs and Competitiveness. That role took on a more official form shortly after mbloom received its contribution from HSDC, with Graves leaving the treasury department and joining the vice president’s office.

Since then, the two men’s personal and professional lives have continued to intertwine. Graves, now the head of corporate responsibility and community relations at KeyBank, has not only donated to Biden’s 2020 campaign, but has also taken an active role in the former vice president’s philanthropic pursuits.

Graves’ success in leveraging his relationship with the Biden family sharply contrasts with that of taxpayers in the state of Hawaii.

Within months of HSDC inking the mbloom deal with Hunter Biden’s firm, the fund was embroiled in scandal. Most notably, two of the companies that first received capital from mbloom were owned by individuals, Arben Kryeziu and Nick Bicanic, tasked with managing the fund.

The scandal only grew when the company owned by Bicanic went under, without ever reporting a profit, and Kryeziu fell afoul of the Securities and Exchange Commission. HSDC, which initially saw mbloom as an opportunity to diversify Hawaii’s service-centered economy, stepped in to stabilize the fund.

Those efforts proved futile, especially when Archer was indicted for defrauding a Native American tribe in May 2016. The charges against Archer stemmed in part from allegations that he and a business associate conspired to use tribal bonds under their control to drive up the stock price of Code Rebel, a technology company also owned by Kryeziu.

In the aftermath of the indictment, RST Partners agreed to give up its stake in mbloom to an investor lined up by HSDC. It remains unclear if Hunter Biden’s firm recouped its initial five-million-dollar investment.

Despite hopes of salvaging mbloom, further investment never materialized. In June 2016, HSDC opted to shutter the fund in an effort to prevent any more tax dollars from going to waste.

The Biden campaign did not respond to requests for comment on this story.

In total, six men and four women were arrested for trafficking drugs into Spain and the rest of Europe - including a renowned Medellin hospital doctor.

Top DHS official behind website debunking election misinformation says he is about to be fired - after directly contradicting a Trump tweet

President Donald Trump's post-election purge is about to pivot to the Department of Homeland Security, where a top cybersecurity predicts his head will roll after he set up a 'rumor control' website to debunk false election claims.

Top U.S. cybersecurity official Christopher Krebs has told associates he expects to be fired by the White House, three sources familiar with the matter told Reuters.

Krebs, who heads the Department of Homeland Security's Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency (CISA), did not return messages seeking comment. CISA and the White House declined comment.

'Look, our Party is very diverse,' the House Minority Leader said when a reporter asked 'how are you going to deal' with QAnon supporters in the Republican caucus – specifically pointing to Representatives-elect Marjorie Taylor Greene and Laurent Boebert.

'You mentioned two people who are going to join our Party and both of them have denounced QAnon,' McCarthy insisted during his weekly press conference. 'So the only thing I would ask of you in the press – these are new members – give them opportunity before you claim what you believe they have done and what they will do. I think it's fair for all.'

Greene has come under fire for her anti-mask stances, but she was captured on video putting on an American-flag patterned face covering before checking in to House Freshman Orientation at a hotel Thursday.

The congresswoman-elect from Georgia was seen exiting her car with a mask hanging around her ear before putting it on and entering the hotel.

Billionaire Uğur Şahin, the chief executive of German firm BioNTech, said: 'If the question is whether we can stop this pandemic with this vaccine, then my answer is: yes.'

But scientists globally - and the UK Prime Minister Boris Johnson - have cautioned the jab will not be a silver bullet because there are still no guarantees it will work, even though the preliminary news from the trial was a light at the end of the tunnel.

There are still a number of unanswered questions, including whether the jab works in older people - considering most of the trial volunteers were young and healthy.

Full data is expected within the next three weeks, Mr Şahin said. It is expected to be able to prevent illness but whether the jab can stop people carrying the coronavirus and spreading it to others may not be known for a year, he admitted.

BioNTech and Pfizer announced on Monday their jointly developed vaccine candidate had outperformed expectations in the crucial phase three trials, proving 90 per cent effective in stopping people from falling ill.

The major breakthrough means people could begin getting vaccinated before the year is out, if regulators are satisfied with the safety of the jab.

In an interview with The Guardian, Mr Şahin said he hoped the vaccine would offer at least a year of protection, suggesting an annual booster would be necessary.

No10 has secured a deal for 40million doses of the Pfizer/BioNTech jab, which will protect 20million people at an estimated cost of £600million.

Boris Johnson promised the UK will be at the 'front of the pack' for it but tempered expectations, warning the vaccine will not deliver a 'knockout blow' to coronavirus.
