We live in the limited and temporary realm of time. Like chess, it has a beginning and an end. The spiritual war is fought in the eternal frame with eternal beings.
The fate of the dark forces is already sealed for eternal judgement. This would make playing the game absolutely futile in our temporary realm for those who work for dark forces.
The answer may be to simply read between the lines.
