Good discussion on this subject. I think smoking and the possible benefits of it have something to do with what the smoke does to macrophages.

On a side note, if you research the formation of the US NIH and the influence of the wife of a prominent advertiser named Mary Lasker you will find some very, very spoopy connections between eugenics, the anti-smoking efforts of recent decades, advertising/marketing, NIH funding and the Lasker Foundation/Lasker Prize.

I hope some anons will take a look at this link. I have personally done some digging on a prominent "philanthropist" by the name of Mary Lasker. She was connected to so many things: the art world, eugenics, advertising/marketing (one of her husbands was a prominent ad exec), the anti-smoking efforts of the last century, the NIH, and US medical research funding. The foundation established by her and her husband, the Lasker Foundation gives an award called the "Lasker Prize".

The linked article suggests many connections to "the secret government" (deep state?).
