Guinness family curse strikes again as young heiress drowns in pool

The famed Guinness clan has tragically lost another member of its family.

It was revealed this week that heiress Honor Uloth, 19, died in a freak swimming pool accident over the summer. On Friday, the “utterly devastated” family revealed Honor’s organs had been donated, telling the Daily Mail: “She always made it clear that if anything happened to her, she would like her organs to be donated to those in need.”

Honor, the granddaughter of Benjamin Guinness, the 3rd Earl of Iveagh, was found unconscious at the bottom of a swimming pool by her 15-year-old brother after a family get-together. Her brother tried to save her to no avail.

The tragedy occurred on July 31, at a BBQ attended by four families at the Guinness mansion in Sussex. According to the inquest papers obtained by the Daily Mail, “ice buckets filled with bottles of wine, beer, and non-alcoholic drinks were dotted around the large grounds that had a climbing frame, a tennis court, a fire pit and a large pool with an attached hot tub. … Miss Uloth, who had not been drinking alcohol, was soaking in the hot tub with two friends before going for a swim around 11 p.m.”

“Altogether there were 19 people present at the barbecue consisting of four families,” according to Geoff Charnock of the coroner’s office. “These families have all known each other for many years and have had many gatherings and barbecues together. … During the course of the evening, there was music playing and everyone was enjoying themselves in the warm weather.

“The other two young ladies remained in the hot tub and they were looking out onto the harbor with their backs to the pool and did not see where Honor went,” Charnock continued. “A short while later, Honor’s brother was walking back toward the hot tub … and saw her lying at the bottom of the pool. He raised the alarm and rescued her from the pool. The adults commenced CPR while an ambulance was called.”

By the time Honor was pulled from the pool, it was found she had suffered a broken shoulder and brain injuries and was pronounced dead in a hospital six days later on August 6.

Meanwhile, in 1978, Lady Henrietta Guinness leapt off a bridge in Umbria, Italy while four-year-old Peter Guinness was killed in a car crash in the same year, The Mail notes.

Parler CEO says surge in users shows people 'tired' of social media censorship

People 'want freedom from the data manipulators,' John Matze said

Parler CEO John Matze says the social media app has had a surge in users this year because people are "tired" of censorship by prominent Silicon Valley rivals.

San Francisco-based Twitter, for example, has labeled or removed more than 50 of President Trump's tweets since Election Day, fueling criticisms from conservatives that social media platforms with largely liberal workforces are suppressing right-leaning viewpoints.

"Parler is, of course, about free speech and making people feel like they have a voice again, which is extremely necessary right now," Matze told "Fox & Friends" on Saturday. "But we're so much more than just free speech, too, because people also want freedom from the data manipulators. They want change in social media in general."

He continued: "People are tired. They're tired of what's going on over there."

Parler became the No. 1 most-downloaded app on Apple's App Store during the week of Election Day and No. 2 on Google Play, according to app analytics company Apptopia.

"Parler started rising in downloads on Friday [Nov. 6]," Apptopia spokesperson Adam Blacker told FOX Business on Nov. 9. "They more than doubled week over week. Parler has been newly installed 312,199 times over the past [seven] days. The [seven] days before that, it was downloaded 150,117 times."

Parler has more than 8 million total members and more than 4.5 million active monthly members, according to Parler COO Jeffrey Wernick. By comparison, Twitter has about 353 million active monthly users, according to app analytics website The Business of Apps, and Facebook has more than 2.6 billion actively monthly users.

Republican frustration with dominant social media platforms escalated on and after Election Day when Facebook and Instagram began labeling posts from 2020 presidential candidates and Twitter began labeling or removing select tweets from Trump about voting and election results.

Facebook and Instagram have also added labels to posts from Trump and President-Elect Joe Biden with a label that reads, "Joe Biden is the projected winner of the 2020 U.S. Presidential Election. (Sources: Reuters/NEP/Edison, others.)"

Twitter has included a label on several tweets in which Trump declared he won that reads, "Official sources called this election differently." It links users to a page that states,"Joe Biden is the projected winner of the 2020 presidential election."

With 88.9 million followers, Trump is among Twitter's most widely tracked users as well as a prolific poster. Matze is "not sure" if Trump will join Parler but says he would "love to have him."

"Given how he's been treated at these other places, it'd probably be … a nice breath of fresh air for him," he said.

Kevin Rudd and Malcolm Turnbull rally social media users in a civil war against Rupert Murdoch and the Barbarians

A Senate Inquiry has been established on the back of Kevin Rudd’s petition, which was signed by 501,876 people, into Australian media which will definitely set the agenda and ground rules in current and future battles for truth in Australian media reporting.

Former Prime Minister Kevin Rudd and Malcolm Turnbull are leading the charge, but they are backed up by millions of Australian’s and that is why the Coalition did not try and stop the Senate Inquiry. The real battle is between Kevin Rudd, Malcolm Turnbull and social media users versus Rupert Murdoch’s News Corp and the Barbarians. The Barbarians being the likes of Nine Entertainment and Seven West Media who also have a financial stake in supporting the federal Liberal/National Coalition.

I am not fan or supporter of Kevin Rudd or Malcolm Turnbull and I have been extremely critical of both on this website but the bigger battle against the lies and propaganda in Australia’s media that is undermining democracy needs to be the focus. So, while I don’t support Rudd or Turnbull, I do support the 501,876 people supporting the Senate Inquiry.

The background to the senate inquiry is explained by The Saturday Paper as:

Pressure is mounting against News Corp, led by former prime ministers Malcolm Turnbull and Kevin Rudd. They say democracy is damaged by the company’s ‘propaganda’ and ‘vendettas’.

Rudd set the ball rolling a month ago, when he drafted a petition calling for a royal commission into media ownership and concentration in Australia.

“Our democracy depends on diverse sources of reliable, accurate and independent news,” it began. “But media ownership is becoming more concentrated alongside new business models that encourage deliberately polarising and politically manipulated news.”

Rudd’s petition went on to canvass a number of areas of concern, including whistleblower protection, official secrecy, unjust searches and prosecution of journalists, and the threats posed by Google and Facebook. But its strongest language related to News Corp, “founded by Fox News billionaire Rupert Murdoch”.

News Corp’s “overwhelming” control of the nation’s print media, the petition said, gave it power that was “routinely used to attack opponents in business and politics by blending editorial opinion with news reporting. Australians who hold contrary views have felt intimidated into silence. These facts chill free speech and undermine public debate.”

The petition garnered more than half a million signatures – including Turnbull’s – and might have got even more had it not overloaded the parliament’s website. (Click here to read more)

Given 501,876 people signed the petition, which I was one, the real support would be in the millions.

Murdoch’s media didn’t take long to fight back once the Senate Inquiry was announced and Tony Abbott’s former advisor Peta Credlin, who is now one of Rupert Murdoch’s puppets on Sky News, started telling lies as per below. Kevin Rudd Tweeted:

This is a 100% lie from the Murdoch media’s Credlin. She accuses me of “data harvesting” from the petition. The truth: we chose the parliament’s own petition site which prevents any form of data harvesting. I await her apology on air.

Filmmakers boycott Israel’s pinkwashing TLVFest

More than a dozen filmmakers have heeded the Palestinian call to boycott TLVFest, the government-backed Tel Aviv International LGBTQ Film Festival.

Six of the filmmakers also joined 170 other artists from around the globe who signed a pledge launched earlier this year to boycott the festival.

TLVFest, taking place this month, has tightened its embrace of the far-right Israeli government this year, specifically the ministry of strategic affairs.

The ministry is the lead agency in Israel’s global effort to smear and sabotage the Palestinian rights movement around the world.

TLVFest is a cornerstone of Israel’s propaganda strategy known as pinkwashing.

This deploys Israel’s supposed enlightenment toward LGBTQ issues to deflect criticism from its human rights abuses and war crimes against Palestinians.

Pinkwashing also aims to falsely present Tel Aviv as a safe place for Palestinians who seek same-sex relationships, while exaggerating or lying about dangers they face in their own society.

The strategy is typically aimed at Western liberal audiences.

Ministry sponsorship

The multi-million-dollar strategic affairs ministry is one of the festival’s main sponsors.

Staffed by officers from Israel’s spy agencies, it wages a global war against BDS – the boycott, divestment and sanctions movement.

As the first filmmakers started to withdraw, TLVFest tried to hide its partnership with the ministry by obscuring its logo on the festival website.

A botched phishing job leads Facebook to a ring of cybercriminals

Security researchers with VPNmentor found an unsecured database containing hundreds of thousands of stolen Facebook logins. The credentials were stolen as part of a widespread phishing operation targeting Facebook users with fake landing pages.

The researchers, who shared their findings with CNET, believed the scammers used websites that offered fraudulent services to Facebook users, such as reports on who recently visited a user’s page.

Victims would log in with their username and password, thinking they were signing up for the service, only to have their data stolen and sent back to the cybercriminals.

The massive amount of users in the database is shocking enough, but the scammers made a fatal mistake during their data heist: They forgot to add a password to their treasure trove of stolen data.

Anyone with a web browser could easily access the stolen database, which contained millions of user records. VPNMentor researchers believe the accounts were used to dupe even more victims into joining a cryptocurrency scam.
