Are most charities just money laundering schemes?

I worked for a well known charity for many years and saw some questionable shit. For one yearly fundraiser, they'd have a member of the board pretend to pledge $10k at the end portion of the auction in order to convince everyone else to make large pledges. Because I inputted the pledges/money into the database, I know that those board members' pledges were all fake.
