Somerville MA (2015): Suspicious voter rolls experience โ€“ election manager tried to persuade me to remain on the city's voter rolls despite moving permanently out of state

I used to live in Somerville MA, and moved away in 2015 (it was a permanent long-distance move). Somerville is an ultra-left city adjacent to Boston, and within walking distance of Harvard.

In Massachusetts, cities are like counties elsewhere - all land in the state is part of one city government, and cities do most of the tasks assigned to counties in most of the United States.

I was concerned about the possibility of election fraud using my name, if I remained on the voter rolls. So I went to City Hall and specifically requested that I be removed from the voter rolls, since I was no longer an eligible voter in the city of Somerville.

I was directed to a man who was responsible for the management of elections in the city of Somerville (I remember that he was in charge of elections - not a random desk clerk.) What he said struck me as exceedingly odd, and in light of the massive electoral fraud in the 2020 election, I felt I should report it here.

When I asked to be taken off the voter rolls, he basically said no. If I wasn't a strong-willed person, I might have given up, but I pressed my case.

He very strongly encouraged me to NOT unregister as a voter in the city of Somerville, even when I told him repeatedly that my move was permanent and out of state.

It felt bizarre, like he turned it into an argument. He pressured me to remain on the voter rolls, with flaky reasons like "what if you move back here?"

The bottom line is that I was no longer eligible to vote in Somerville, and as a responsible citizen who likes tidy accurate databases and clean elections, I should not be on the voter rolls. Why was I being pressured to stay on the voter rolls when I was not going to and legally must not vote in the city?

(In the very unlikely case that I ever moved back to Somerville, I could always re-register as a voter, that was not a problem. Was this supposed to be an argument for remaining on the voter rolls in a place where I don't resisde? WTF?)

In light of the widespread election fraud, I wonder if he was systematically tracking names on the voter rolls of voters who aren't going to vote, since I was moving away my name was a juicy morsel for that list, and wouldn't I please leave that tasty treat in his office for safekeeping in future elections?
