Media have pre-written obits for public figures; when the public figure does die, they can publish immediately.

 

Not outside the realm of possibility that someone every now and then fucks up and accidentally publishes one of them instead of some story they were supposed to publish. Just clicks the wrong file link or something. Happens in newspapers too, or sometimes a file gets corrupted and all that prints is gibberish characters. They might not notice it for a while.

 

That's a bit more realistic of an explanation than that the Queen died in 2017 and we've been seeing a body double ever since, or something.
