All roads lead to Rome.
Pope is leader of the Catholic Church.
Pontiff is the business role as head of the Roman Curia.
The Curia invented all the different kinds of corporations you are familiar with: trusts, C-corps, S-corps, non-profit corporations, cooperatives, foundations, LLPs and LLC's and every other permutation of "business structure" you can think of except partnerships and sole proprietorships.
It created the very first corporation, the British Crown Corporation.
The Roman Curia, under the leadership of the Roman Pontiff, creates and defines and sets up the rules of play for all corporations worldwide. The Pontiff retains the right to amend or repeal the "laws" of any corporation. It's his game, under his copyright, and he can do what he likes with it.
Vast majority of national governments are incorporated entities.
United States is a corporation, 28 U.S. Code § 3002 (15).
