BuzzFeed, Inc. will purchase the news site HuffPost from Verizon Media as part of a stock deal, The Wall Street Journal reported Thursday.

A person familiar with the deal told the newspaper that Verizon Media will invest an undisclosed amount of cash into BuzzFeed as part of a larger agreement in which Verizon Media will own a minority stake in BuzzFeed and the two companies will collaborate on advertising and content opportunities.

Jonah Peretti, BuzzFeed's current CEO, will lead both outlets. However, HuffPost's day-to-day operations will not change, and the site will remain a "separate news organization" from BuzzFeed News, BuzzFeed's Editor-in-Chief Mark Schoofs told employees.

A far-left activist group that strongly supports defunding the police is holding phone bank events for Georgia Senate candidate Rev. Raphael Warnock.

“Team WFP is kicking off our runoff election text banking for @ReverendWarnock in Georgia TONIGHT from 6-9pm ET,” the Georgia chapter of the group Working Families Party retweeted last week along with a link to a virtual text bank.

The organization, which lists Warnock as one of its endorsed candidates on their website and has been backed by Hungarian billionaire George Soros in the past, supports what it refers to as the “People’s Charter,” which demands that government “shift resources away from policing, jails and detention centers, endless wars and agencies that separate families” and instead direct those resources to “schools, housing, healthcare and jobs, to enable all people — especially Black and brown people, immigrants, and Indigenous people — to thrive.”

The charter has been signed by some of the most liberal members of Congress, including Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, Rep. Rashida Tlaib, Rep. Ilhan Omar, and Rep. Ayanna Pressley.

“We’ve always said that electing Joe Biden was a doorway, not a destination,” National Director of WFP Maurice Mitchell said earlier this year. “The People’s Charter is that destination.”

Top donors to the independent expenditure committee, which supports campaigns throughout the country, include the Democracy PAC, funded by Democratic mega-donor George Soros, which gave $1 million in three installments earlier this year; Susan Pritzker, a prominent Democratic donor; and a committee affiliated with the Service Employees International Union, according to a filing with the Federal Election Commission.

ric Nesbitt, the Republican leader of the Michigan GOP-led Senate, is calling the actions of a Detroit voting center 'reprehensible,' saying that there were 3-1 Democrats to Republicans allowed to watch at the polls on Nov. 3 election night.

Nesbitt's wife was at the center and observed what was going on during voting.

Nesbitt said Thursday on "Just the News AM" that Detroit election workers were refusing to count ballots when Republicans were watching but would count when only Democrats were present.

"Whenever they removed a Republican attorney, or Republican poll observer, the election workers were cheering," he told show host Carrie Sheffield. "They were being kicked out of the room for things like adjusting their face mask or accidentally brushing up against some other folks."

He says they're not getting transparency out of Detroit and this is a real challenge for the city.

"My colleagues and I are calling for a full audit of the process to try to figure out what actually went wrong," he said.
